It's Tab 4. Not the ideal, since it does not do USB hosting
could not get my hands on this project due to lot of work. But getting back to this and hopefully will have updates. I'll post pics if any progress...
Thanks for great & valuable comments.

If your tablet supports fast charge, you just need a fast charge adapter, it'll definitely charge while on if it supports that.

For overheating, you could put a 12v PC fan on the back, and if that's not enough, make a port in the climate control ducts pointed in its direction. Under auto, the center vents only blow air when they're blowing A/C anyway, so heating should only be going to the floor and defroster.

Super cold, well, you'll just have to wait for the interior to warm up.

You shouldn't have a problem doing the navig screen lifting - a micro-roller switch placed in the right spot should be an easy way to toggle active when it's up all the way.

The little buttons are just a bunch of delicate soldering.

Good luck and post up some pictures!

what tablet did you use exactly? I went and picked up a Samsung 7” tablet and it was about an inch too big around. I don’t mind modifying as I have done many custom interiors but I am trying to avoid it.

All the details are here:

But the lack of GPS on the unit makes it a bad choice if you want to use it for navigation. If you just want it for audio, it would be a good choice.

My project

I took this one a couple years back thanks to this and another great DIY post. I managed to install an OEM Navi unit in my 05 g35 and got everything to work fine. The screen works as well as the up/down unit. I bought a video integration box from tv&nav2go which connected to the back of be OEM screen, minor modication required to fit the new harness. Anyway I ended frying the video box while testing it and now I have to buy a new one. I think I’ll just opt for a JDM double din unit install and remove the OEM screen.

G35 coupe
2005 no nav :( can I replace with the OEM nav system?

I have a 2005 G35 coupe. It has the basic BOSE system no nav. Can I buy an OEM Nav system and just swap them? What connections are available on the OEM system with no nav that I have?

G35 Coupe
I just upgraded the factory navigation in my 2006 G35 with a Garmin Smartdrive 65.
The Garmin was a perfect fit for the existing up/down display unit.
I had to invent some new mountings for the Garmin and provide power for the unit and convince it to go on and off
in sync with the display elevator.
Other than that it was a fairly easy conversion. Looks factory.

Do you have any good pictures of the process?
