'05 A/C controller in a '04

Last year I asked a few questions about the need to update my audio.
But life got in the way. So now I have all the parts I need except....
The DD A/C controller.
I'm using my own bezel assembly. Since the metra didnt ever really get good reviews on color and buttons, and the OEM bezel has a DD hole way bigger,(along with the price) I decided to keep my own and modify it. I have a machine shop and made nice clean cuts.
The '04 OEM controller is 220+ and an '06 is $160. Aside from fitting (screw hole location and slighly different design such as the buttons having more space between them)
does anyone know if and '05 would work in an '04? Non dual climate, non Bose
I cant tell if the connector is the same from any pics I've seen.

Just thought someone might have tried this already.
Thanks in advance

Richard

It was tried and reported back to me that it does not work. It was a while ago, but as I recall, they were trying to do about the same thing, as they preferred the 05+'s dial over the 03-04's buttons for climate control.

Also, I'd love to see the results from the mod-job.

Thanks again wrathernaut. I was afraid that was the case. I prefer the '05 for that reason also. (and price difference) The cutting was easy, I made the "hole" as small as possible. I found a broken bezel to
experiment on. I took pics intending to post them. I will soon as I can. Ya know for a 10 year old car
I've had no issues. 120k miles. A ding near the gas door. And it still looks good, design wise. Anyway
once I get the controller I'll post the whole project. Thanks for your help once again.
Richard
