04 G Coupe CD player skipping issue - PA11 installed

Hey guys,

Quick question: My 04 coupe started having issues playing CD, it skips or hick ups while playing a perfectly good official (not burned) CD. I have extended warranty so I think it'll cover the repairs. However, I also have PA11 unit installed (did myself in '07) and here's the question: Will dealership refuse to fix the CD player skipping issue IF I self installed PA11 unit? Can they say it voids the warranty?

Thanks for the input!

Well... depends on how much of a dick the dealership is. They have to prove the installation caused the failure to void the warranty. It's possible they could void the warranty on the radio if they claim the improper removal and replacement of the radio is what caused the mechanical failure of the headunit. There's plenty of reason that this could potentially be true. Since removal of the 07 headunit is pretty easy, I'd just remove it again and take the PA11 out.

Honestly though, these radios fail often enough they probably won't even question replacing another.

The issue started a few years after PA installation.
So that's what I tried doing yesterday (remove the PA11 unit all together) but silly me, broke clock trim piece and decided to hold off. At this point I thought - does it matter if I remove the PA unit?

What I did for now left the cable connected to CD player but removed both PA and iPod cable from the car.

Well, if the dealer can reasonably prove that the improper removal or handling of the radio caused the failure, they can deny the warranty coverage.

If they ask if he did it, and if he did the CD-changer lock procedure before removal, and he gives a blank stare, they could deny coverage. If he answers that yes, he followed proper procedure:

1. Eject and remove any CDs from the Audio unit (BOSE system).
2. Turn ignition switch OFF. Wait until Audio unit (BOSE system) display is off and mechanism stops moving (mechanism sound stops).
3. Press any one of the disc selection buttons once. When a display shows on the Audio unit (BOSE system), press the same disc selection button again within 5 seconds.
The changer mechanism will lock itself within 10 seconds.

Then they shouldn't be able to blame him at all.

Thanks, I'll def check it put and read up more.

Should I disclose to dealership that I have PA11 cable connected? Right now I just said that I'm having issues with CDs skipping while playing. So only time they will find out is after they take the unit apart.

If you're not removing it, absolutely disclose it, and be sure to mention that you did the mechanism locking procedure detailed in my last post.
