Not getting great sound with Alpine Double Din

Hey guys,

At my local audio shop for my 2007 Infiniti G35 Coupe, I got them to install an Alpine INE-920HD double din with the metra kit which replaced my Bose stock unit.

I love it so far but the issue is I'm not getting the sound I used to with the stock head unit such as the loudness and especially the bass. It feels like there's no subwoofer in the car anymore. The bass feels likes being forced out of the front speakers.

I called back the audio shop and he said another customer had the same issue with a G35 bose equipped sedan. The audio shop guy said he'll look into it and follow up with me.

Have any of you been or have experienced this problem? If so, what's the fix to it?

Greatly appreciated.
Kind regards.

I had this issue too. Do you know what 2V converter they Installed? We recommend the Pac OEM2+ and if you don't set the pre outs the same, it sounds bad and takes a while to turn up. As for the coupe and bass, its time for you to buy an aftermarket sub for your trunk. Look into the 4080 box and a nice JL sub & Amp Combo

Yep, I'd guess they used the scosche version or another "premium audio adapter", or maybe even no adapter, and just used the 70-7551 harness or equivalent.

The ROEM-NIS2 has had by far the most consistent success in maintaining the same audio "quality" of the bose setup while maintaining the bose amp.

That is my receipt. So either they did something wrong or the 70-7551 is not getting the job done and need to go with the ROEM-NIS2?

There it is. I went with the 7551 also. It works, but the. PAC module would've worked better...!

Yep. That's the problem. Get yourself the ROEM-NIS2, wire it up to the speaker-level outputs (not the RCAs) from the new radio, and you should be done. I'd try and get the installer to do it for free, since they did it wrong in the first place by not meeting the standards agreed to in the original agreement.

Add to your thread how the 7551 has issues with bass in the aftermarket DDin install. I would have waited for the PAC module.

I took my car to his shop since and he said that the pac roem2 would not not make a difference to the one I already have and that it is a "voltage" issue and will order a part (he did not specify which part) to test on the other customers G35 sedan since he has the same issue.

Is he doing the right thing or am I missing something here? Thanks

You're missing a huge thing: A competent shop.
Problem #1: Having already done an install in a G35 with a regular wiring harness, and experiencing a bad result, he did the same damn thing again with your car.
Problem #2: When doing the same thing with your car had the same result, he didn't look into it, otherwise he would have found the information on this site.
Problem #3: He actually delivered the car to you without doing the job he agreed to do - upgrade the headunit properly.
Problem #4: After you were able to find the solution relatively easily by searching/asking on this site, and you presented the solution to him, he dismissed the solution, spouting grade-a bullshit. The ROEM-NIS2 isn't for "voltage issues" it's about signal compatibility.

Being a bit of an analyst, I'd guess the part he's putting in the other car is a $5 line output converter, or a pre-amp. Neither of those things converts the signal from unbalanced to balanced, although the pre-amp might get the volume to a higher level, it won't fix the lack of bass, and likely introduce more noise. After that fails, he *might* try the PAC ROEM-NIS2, see that it works, leave it in and claim it was something else to save face, but since the ROEM-NIS2 is in there now there's no reason to change it.

Any competent shop would have researched the install beforehand, or upon experiencing the problems seen in the previous install, seen the information on this site and used the ROEM-NIS2.

Before I made the shopping list with the ROEM-NIS2 being the only recommendation for keeping the bose amp, posts like yours with no bass or super-quiet audio were extremely common. Now they're down to one every few months, mostly from people who have taken them to shops that don't know any better.

Straight truth right there. I honestly need to pull out my Metra and switch over to a roem when it gets warmer out .

One of the cd's got jammed in my cd player and I was wondering if anyone knew around how much it would cost to fix if I took it to infiniti dealership or if I went to a private shop?

Thanks a bunch for your input Wrath! I have an appointment set up this upcoming Wednesday to get the issue resolved. I even sent the installer your FAQ sticky thread for future G35 installations. I'll get back at y'all on Wednesday.
