After 15 years, the stereo, AC, audio finisher problem

I don't come here as often as I used to, still I can't imagine how I missed this problem when it was often discussed a decade ago.

Imagine my surprise when it began recently, nearly 15 years after I bought the 2003 G coupe.

I'm trying to figure out what to do after reading through the discussions.

A couple of people wrote about simply disconnecting the battery overnight, does that really work? Doesn't disconnecting the battery run the risk of killing so much more?

There is a shop in Florida that disputes that it's the finisher board and fixes the problem for $250, but you have to send the entire assembly to them. Anyone use them?

Has anything happened in the past decade to make any of this easier? By chance, any way to get help locally-not using a dealer-in Northern NJ?

Would appreciate any help/advice.

Replace the radio already. 15 years is super lucky to keep the original radio.

How does an unrelated radio control the AC system in an Infiniti G35?

Yeah.... just get a used one with Bluetooth if you're trying to save money. You can sometimes find used Metra kits for pretty cheap from people who've bought them and realized they cheapen the car.

It doesn't. You need a new HVAC controller board that comes with either the JDM Double Din dash finisher or one from Scosche or Metra. Check out Wrathernaut's exhaustive sticky thread on the topic.

Correct, but given the age of the factory nav system, it isn't worth keeping. A new DD radio will likely have nav or nav integration with a smartphone that will more than take over for the factory nav.
