2003 G35 Bose Sound System

Hey All,

Recently I feel like I'm not getting the same sound as before in my Bose G35.

Seems like theres no BASS and the sound is mostly coming from Front speakers... whereas before it was more balanced and it felt like the rear speakers were more powerful.

When I increase my BASS on my radio it is really crappy. Not like before at all!

I went ahead and replaced my BOSE AMP with 2 other BOSE amps to compare and isolate the issue. So its safe to say my BOSE AMP is good theres not where the issue lies.

As far as I know... my car has

- 2 speakers up front
- 2 tweeters upfront
- 2 speakers near the rear seat
- 2 speakers on the rear deck
- 1 bose amp

Is there a sub?

Thanks for the help!

Sedan right? If so, that's your "Audio Visual, Navigation & Telephone" factory service manual right there. Below the window you can "click here to download a copy".

Yes your '03 Bose rig has a sub, that's the single speaker mounted in your rear deck, accessible from the trunk. And ... it has its own little amp attached to the speaker which has its own little fuse. If I'm reading the book right I think it's #17 in your in-cabin fuse block. So any of those components, the driver, the amp or the fuse may have failed, but I'd certainly start by checking the fuse.

OK sorry, Coupe version here:
https://www.nicoclub.com/service-man...F2003%2Fav.pdf

In that case it seems you do have two sub-woofers mounted to the rear deck which are directly powered by the Bose amp, so ignore all my clever ideas above. D'OH! Your amp has 6-channels: two outputs for L&R front doors (those woofer / tweeter combos have passive crossovers), two outputs for L&R rear, and two more for L&R subs. Since you know the amp is working I guess you need to inspect those two woofers to see if they're still operating or if the cones have come apart after years of pumping the bass.

Let us know what you find.

yeah so I did read how to take apart the rear seats.. the door cards... just to get to the speakers.

i decided to just remove the front driver side door speaker and ran wires from the 6 x 9 rear deck into that speaker.

this did not yield good results.

it seems like the rear deck speakers are just not getting proper signal. the speakers are fine.

I mean afterall, whats the chance both of them would fail at the same time?

Anyways so its not the speakers, not the amp...

Not sure I follow what you did there to troubleshoot. You mean you pulled the speaker out of your driver's door, connected it to one of the Bose amp's sub outputs - and got nothing? I also don't know how the Bose amp splits off low frequencies for those subs. For example, what happens if you move your "fade" control completely to the rear speakers? Do you hear the subs working? And if you move the "fade" control to only the front speakers, do the subs still work? I don't know.

The problem is, if both the amp and the speakers are "good" then it should be working properly. The head unit sends 4 shielded signal wires to the Bose amp: Left Front, Right Front, Left Rear, and Right Rear. The split for the subs happens in the Bose amp. So if all 4 "side" speakers are functioning then the subs should be functioning. Try that "fade" test and tell us what you find.

Yes i pulled the front speaker.

Connected it to the rear deck.

the speaker moves but it doesnt produce bass or sound.

I tried moving the fade to the back. It doesnt give bass like it use too.

The 6×9 rear deck move ... but just arent providing bass like they did in the past.

Speakers are good, amp is good, sound from all 4 channels ... I'm afraid I'm out of ideas. I can't think of what could have changed if all your components are working as they're supposed to. I'm sure you've tweaked the tone controls and messed with the SCV? Is the lack of bass happening on every source - FM, Sat radio, CD, Cassette(!!)? I don't think it would be the head unit deteriorating, that would be a strange kind of failure. Sorry, wish I could help you more. Maybe some others in here have better ideas.

The head units are known to suffer from solder joints cracking just like the instrument clusters.

Yes its happening on every source FM SAt... etc...

Yeah I mean its not likely a head unit issue since all door front and back speakers are working fine....

The amps I used were from an 04 sedan as well as 06 coupe...

That 04 Sedan Bose amp would NOT be compatible with your system because that car only had one woofer output. The 06 Coupe amp looks like it had the same pin-outs as your '03 so that should have worked. I guess the next thing to try would be another head unit, though it's a PITA. As MikeG35Coupe said, any of our car's million solder joints can fail after years of service.

i appreciate your help 05skylinesedan & mikeg35coupe !

well Im thinking to either ....

1. buy an android headunit $100 (i have the metra ac controls already) and then buy the $50 nissan pac bose adapter harness

2. buy an android headunit $100 (i have the metra ac controls aready) and buy an amp on amazon $100 plus misc power wire, etc $20

so thats like $150 for option 1 or like $220 for option 2

Whats the better bet? would a random amazon amp for $100 be superior to the oem bose ?
