Wondering if anybody has successfully swapped a oem nav pop up unit into a non nav g. I’m looking for information on how to do this, I have all the necessary parts due to the fact I have a nav version g with frame damage. Looking to put that nav into a new 2006 non nav. Not really looking for opinions on how pointless and expensive you think it would be. Looking for actual how to. I see too many threads on this subject and literally all the replies are just saying no, how pointless it would be, how out of date it is, how it’s cheaper to use your phone. I’m not tryna hear all that negativity, I’m tryna get this done and working so I can see my real time gas usage, oil and filter alarms, and cuz the females love the pop up screen and im gonna mod it once it’s done. Again not worried what u think ab the plans I’m just wondering if anybody can actually help me with it? Sorry for being abrasive but I mean come on, all these guys looking for the info and ppl being mean and negative to them about it and gatekeeping the how-to. Help a g out.

 

Love your commitment! No negative vibes from me. I don't know if anybody has ever done it but perhaps you could be the first. If the donor car is the same year and model you may be able to pull it off with all of the components plus possibly some extra wire runs. Sorry I don't know for sure...

Click G35/G37/Q40, G35, Coupe -or- Sedan, 2006, then "Audio Video and Nav".
On the next page, below the manual's window "Click here to download a copy". If your donor car is the same model and year then NAV and Non-NAV should be in the same book and you can begin studying the differences. You may also need the "Power Supply, Ground and Circuit Elements" book.

Basically it's just take apart the dash, install the head unit, nav, and GPS unit, put the HDD under the glove box, then wire it up.

Wiring schematic is in the FSM, section AV - Audio / Visual. iirc the GPS plugs into the nav display, the nav display plugs into the head unit, the HDD plugs into the head unit. I think all models 2005+ had the wiring harness between the HDD and the NAV as part of the dash harness.

Power wiring is basically just ignition ON, ACC, full time battery, and the back up light circuit. All that is on the dash harness already except the back up light circuit.

I think a lot (maybe all) the wiring is already there on the 2005+ models, I'd start by taking apart both cars to see what, if anything, is actually missing on the recipient vehicle.

 

Yeah, I definitely want to do this. At some point I think there was a thread from a while ago like 10 years ago. I think it explain the way that you had to do it. It wasn’t super specific, but it explains exactly what parts in need and if I find that thread I’ll reference it. Also, let me know how it goes so I can do it as well!

But as stated, the steps are: Remove the dash of the donor, completely. Remove the donor's wiring harness, completely. Remove your dash, completely. Remove your dash wiring harness, completely. (At this stage, you might as well replace your heater core, since you've done a lot of the work anyway)

Replace your dash wiring harness with the donor's wiring harness. Install the donor navigation system. Replace your dash.

Wonder why you weren't happy with your right foot telling you that you were or were not getting good gas mileage while you look at 20-year old maps of the area, as you type in destinations one letter at a time with a joystick instead of a simple voice command.

So, the real advice? Put the pop-up navigation mechanism in there. Make the minor modifications to the Pioneer DMH-WC5700NEX to make it fit inside the pop-up nav screen. Mount the rest of the new headunit in the factory navigation control box location, leaving the infiniti headunit installed to do climate control, but wire up audio output from the Pioneer to the factory wiring instead of the factory headunit.

Now you have wireless carplay/android auto, with modern navigation, you don't need to buy the JDM climate controls, and it looks 100% factory. I'm pretty sure there's some android apps that can help you with gas mileage and reminders for oil changes.

 

Since you know so much about this, pack your bags, cause ima fly you out to do this conversion 😂

Or, conversely, the new radio, factory radio, wiring harness and factory nav popup, and most of the work would be done on those and shipped back. You'd still have to mount the Pioneer deck, but it would be pretty close to plug-n-play.
