Burning electrical smell after sub and amp install in my g

I just recently installed a 600 watt amp with a 10 inch sub in my G I got everything working awesome until I noticed this weird smell coming from my engine bay.
It’s a really hard smell to describe smells like a burning rubber or electrical smell. Smells like it’s coming near the alternator but I can’t really pinpoint exactly where it’s coming from. I unhooked the amp from the battery and the smell went away. can the factory alternator handle the power? I feel like it’s not a crazy upgrade. or is it something else? what should I try?
