Right, so I found it ( ) and found the negative end. Now do i want to undo the screw to loosen it, or do I just want to undo the 'clamp' thingie that is attached to the terminal?

If it's just the clamp thingie, how do I undo it? wrench? i tried it by hand just to see and it didn't want to budge, so it's nice and tight.

When you put it all back, make sure the clamp is tight enough --- not too tight that you bend stuff, but tight enough to make a good contact. I'd guess about 15lbs of torque.
I found out recently that if it's not tight enough, you get a poor contact with bad consequences. G/L bro..[img]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/img]
Dude, if you're resetting the computer for better shifting, you'll have to leave it disconnected for a full 12 hrs. I've tried shorter times and it doesn't work...........

I noticed a couple of stumbles on acceleration. Funny it only happened after shifting to 3 rd gear. Not a bad stumble but I could notice it.
If the poor connection persists, then you'll notice a lack of power, dim lights, poor driveability--- Bad stuff.....

I tried half hour and no difference. Then I tried 2 hours and no difference. So from then on I stuck to what the tech told me at the dealership: 12 hours.
Maybe 3 hours is enough. Next time I do it I'll try it.

As far as I know ..you can disconnect it... and sit in er and hold down the brake pedal, which will drain all of the residual power ...effectively what letting it sit does in a period of 30 seconds to a minute... maybe a bit longer to be sure, but thats what I have seen on other vehx.

Doesn't the ECU "relearn" and adapt to your driving style over time??

It does learn, but it takes time. To erase the memory you have to disconnect the batt. to notice the difference immediately.

What kind of shifting problem are you guys having that needed to reset the computer on the G35s?? I own automatic cars and never had to do that to any.

Resetting the computer gives quicker shifting, as well as more precise shifting, so that when you shift at say 6k, the tranny will shift within a shorter time. Without resetting, the shift happens later, at a higher rpm, and not so positively. This becomes critical if you're shifting close to redline.
In fully auto mode, the tranny shifts more precisely and firmer also.
Our auto boxes are hooked up to a computer with a 'learning algorythm' which will 'slush' on you unless you drive briskly all the time.
Not sure how long it takes to relearn the better shifting, but it easy to reset by disconnecting the batt.

See, that's why I liked the BMW Steptronic transmission.

I don't drive briskly all the time -- eats too much fuel, wears the car out too fast, and just isn't necessary.

The Steptronic has a Sport mode. When you slide the shifter over to the manual gate, the display changes from "D" to "S" -- and the computer throws out the adaptive-learning patterns and shifts to a static, sport-mode pattern of higher revlines and quicker shifts. Then, once you tape the shifter up or down to force a shift (and it is forced, not suggested like on our G35's) it moves into the fully manual mode and won't shift until you pushe the lever or come to a complete stop (drops back to 2nd, I think).

I have similar habits, and don't drive briskly much of the time. Seems Infiniti missed the boat on this one. Should have the more aggressive shifting in the manumatic mode, and softer, more mundane shifting in D mode.
I'd love to be able to reprogram the tranny computer for that.
