sound stage...front/back
Hi fellow members
i've been browsing this site for a while. Reading up on everything from LOCs, and comp speaker setsups to DDin convsersions. Anyways I've read how many ppl are just using their front components for sound and the sub in the trunk for the lows. (ditching the 6x9's in the back) Many mentioned keeping the sound stage up front. Was wondering what is meant by that. Was wondering how this setup would sound like for backseat passengers? wouldnt the bass from the sub overpower all the vocals coming from the front? I've sat in a civic w/ this kind of setup (NOT TO COMPARE A CIVIC TO the G35 BY ANY MEANSSS!), it sounds great in the front, but i cant hear much when i sit in the back, jus the BOOOM...and a whole lot of it. Last thing i want is for my backseat pasengers to tell me to turn off my subs since that is ALL they hear.

Besides the 6x9's, there are also speakers in the sides, kind of down by the passengers knees. The 6x9's are what Infiniti calls "subwoofers" for the coupe. Not really subwoofers, obviously.

Well I have done exactly what you have described, only I retained my original 6X9's in the back and added the subs to that. I am accually looking for a nice set of after market ones, probably Bostan Acustics, to fill the absence of highs in the rear. Also I have come to find that the Bose system, even in the front, does not put out a lot of highs. There for to answer your question, in my opinion yes, I think that the rear stage in a set up like this is lacking highs. But I do think, and I will soon be able find, that adding a nice set of aftermarket 6X9's in the rear will brighten the sound for the rear occupants.
It may depend on the way you run the rear 6x9's. The 6x9's may only be receiving lower frequency signals(Bass). If this is the case, no speaker that you add back there that runs off the stock amp will add any highs. If you want full range sound, you need to make sure the speaker is receiving a full range signal.
If you look at the schematics and wiring diagrams, and expected signals (all available in the service manual) the rear 6x9s are only recieving low frequencys. Not as bad as a 100 hz cutoff, if I remember correctly, the cutoff of is about 400 hz or so, but either way, there are no highs coming from the 6x9's because the signal from the Bose amp has no highs. Now, if you put in an aftermarket amp and run them off that, it's different.
Really, though, what you want to do is replace the side speakers in the rear with better ones, I think they are 5 1/4 's, but I would have to check to be sure.
