Amped up!

OK for those of you who changed out the weak *** stock amp for the speakers, which amp did you go with? Did you need a LOC? I bought some CDT speakers and now looking to compliment these with a better amp. I don't need a woofer so I just need advice on an amp that will replace the stock amp.

It all depends on what speakers you go with and what power they can handle. Me personally, I felt the subwoofer was first on the list of things needed, and I went with a JL Audio 500/1 to power that.

I have a JL Audio 300/4 in the mail somewhere that I will install. I puts a solid 75 watts to each speaker. JL Audio, while not at the very top end, is high quality and very respectable. I would recommend that amp for you, depending on the power handling capabilities of your speakers.

Caelric, I'm only going to change out the front speakers and keep the rest. I'm getting CDT CL-62, 180watt power handling. I also got Infiniti basslink for my bass, I had a 12" infiniti with rockford 500w punch for my last ride and it was too loud for my taste now, I'm getting old, so I opted for something less booming. So with the CDTs up front and the stock speakers what type of amp would be good for that setup?

Well I just spliced the basslink to the rear output speakers. I don't have pics but you can just mount it on the driver side of the trunk, it fits very well.

Sounds simple enough to hook up...I just wasn't sure if the OEM headunit would like it connected that way, or if it would throw the impedence off on the rear lines. I'm hoping to find a more stealth-like position than just mounting it like that...but it's probably not going to work out. Thanks for the info.

I have a 4 gauge cable running from the battery back to a power distribution block; if I did it over again, I would probably go with a 0/1 gauge, but it seems to be working fine.

There is a grommet right behind the battery, run it thru there and it comes out behind the glove box, then run it along the side back through the trunk opening and you are good.

I suggest a 4-ch. amplifier, preferably with more power to the front speakers and a crossover. This way you can tune for front-stage with rear fill. I would also sound damp the front doors and the rear deck. Good luck.

Whe I install my 10" alpine Sub I'm going with an Alpine Amp , I already have a 1 farad cap sitting around, and this gadget by Alpine to control the amp Remote Amplifier Control .

If you're doing a subwoofer, I also suggest putting in a switch on the remote line so you can turn the woofer on and off when you want.
