check engine light on after speaker install???
Hey fellas,
I put in some kenwood components in the front over the weekend. Now this Monday am I notice the check engine light is on. I've got a 2004.5 G35 AT with 5800 miles on it - last service at 2500 miles. I ran a scan tool and it reported a code of P0000. That does not mean anything according to the list I have (it starts at P0001).
Anyone have any insight?
Thanks!

I had the negative lead disconnected while I was actually installing, but after finishing each side, I reconnected and tested before putting the door panel back on (to save me the hassle of taking it off in cased I messed something up). Everything went fine - no glitches.
I hooked up the leads going to the tweeter (green/red wire serving as +/- respectively) to the Kenwood passive crossover and then used the two outputs of the crossover to hook up to the tweeter and woofer. I left the old woofer connector unconnected.
Sound ok to you fellas. It sure sounds ok with the radio on (though with the 4 ohm speakers, I have to crank it up a little more).
So yes, the stereo was on during the install, but not while I was actually plugging/connecting stuff in/out.

IF you had the engine running for long periods of time while idle....the engine will throw a code...just drive it for a while and it will reset by itself....happened to me twice while do long installs/adjustments on electronics and letting the engine run while doing so
I would either just drive it for a bit or do an ECU reset. You couldn't have damaged anything as long as you only touched speaker wires.

Thanks for the responses. I found out that a code P0000 for our cars actually represents a "PASS" code - that is no error on self diagnostics. I can reset the light using my scan tool, but I think I will leave it on till I take for service next week. I am curious to see what the dealer comes up with using their Consult tool. I will let update this thread with what they say...
Update from Infiniti dealer.
The code is "E0001" (I think) - my scan tool did not get it - it reported the P0000. Anyway, their computer said that 21 "trips" (on/off cycles ago), the ECU backup battery discharged. This was almost exactly the time the car battery was disconnected for several hours while installing the speakers (I took a break in between to make an "adapter" to allow std 6.5" mounting).
So anyway, they said if it happened again, let them know, else it was just a weird glitch (I didn't get into telling them that I had purposely disconnected the battery).
So no worries it seems...
