Hey thanx for the info. I have an 05' 6MT Obsidian blk g35. Performance, and premium package. Will i have to convert to the DD Kit to install a touchscreen like the eclipse because the stock HU is a pop up HU? If so, then i will follow the well thought out process of the DD kit DIY install. Thanx much

2005 Shifter Aluminum Surround Removal

As a side note to removing the shifter aluminum surround piece.... instead of a crowbar and all that stuff, I just put the shifter in 4th, pushed my fingers down into the leather shifter boot at 5 and 7 o'clock, and curled my fingers under the surround and lightly pulled up.

It came up and off very easily... much better than using a crowbar/screwdriver that might scratch or dent, and also spreads the lifting load across a much larger range of aluminum, minimizing the chance of bending or breaking anything.

If I change out my HU, can I still use my bose speaker's and amp or do I have to change all that too?

Also how difficult would this be on the 5AT?

I also have XM radio. Will this become unusable after changing out the HU? it says its made by clarion.

5at will be the same difficulty...

yeah im pretty sure you do... and the removal is the same as the 03-04's...

push the chrome ring (above the leather boot) down.
then theres a pin that locks the leather shift **** in place, gently pull that pin towards the front of the car. then the shift **** will be free to move up and off!

Thanks for all the help. You gave me enough confidence to order the 2005 double din kit from J's garage. Its going to be 3 long weeks....

Now I have to decide on which HU to buy....looks like the Kenwood DDX-7015 and Eclipse AVN 2454 are popular choices.

awesome!
also, there is a new AVN 5435, so buy that one, not the 2454...

remember, take the installation SLOW, dont rush... and remember the dual climate control button, LED, AND resistor needs to be soldered on! all 3...

have fun!

Well, is it necessary to do the light? Or can I just solder the DCC button? As long as its functional, having it light up isn't that important to me,

Which one do you think is better, AVN 5435 or Kenwood DDX7015?

no the light isnt necessary, but the button is!

ok lemme say something about the NEW navigation units...
the new ones arent as easily hackable to get the dvd player to play or punch in a destination on your navi while youre in motion, its hooked up to the speed sensor instead of the parking brake wire now.

my AVN 2454 is hooked up to the parking brake wire so i just ground it and it works while im driving. the NEW AVN's wont work like that. once you hit 20mph, a courtesy screen comes on and tells you "DISPLAY SHUT OFF FOR YOUR SAFETY" or something like that.

im not sure about the Kenwoods, but the NEW AVIC-N2's and NEW Eclipse AVN's are hard to hack...

good luck...
