Problem w/my PAC
Problem w/my PAC
I finally got all my gear installed (PAC, Belikin Auto Kit) and it works great except that my HU wont recognize the PAC unit as a SAT unless I have my cell phone charger pluged into the arm rest 12v supply. I can unplugg it once the HU is changed to SR1 and it continues to work, but it just wont recognize it unless it's plugged in. The only correlation the arm rest 12v has to the sytem is that is the line that I tapped into for the Belkin Auto Kit 12v supply, but that is still supplied with power even when nothing is plugged into the arm rest 12v socket, so why this is happening has got me thourghouly confused.
Any ideas?

I tapped into the armrest also on my 2004.5 Coupe. No problems - nothing plugged in to the 12v socket.
All I can think of is that it is a bad splice? Maybe the wire is almost cut in half? No idea why it works when you start to pull juice through the 12v socket...

A possibility could be that your splice is bad, and when you plug in the charger, it pushes out on the 12v housing and completes the connection.
You guys have a 12v socket in the armrest? Is that 5AT only? I don't have one there, only 2 on either side of the dash.

the splice is about 3 inches away from the actual 12v socket just in the middle of the line. and it maintains power to the belkin unit after my HU recognizes the PAC if i pull out my charger from the socket. This is very reproducable, but i cannot for the life of me figure out why.
aslo i have a '05 5AT and there is one in the armrest and one under the HU

screw splicing it into an existing line... might cause problems as you are stating...
secure the ground to the chassis.
then run the hot line to the fuse panel. extract a fuse (prob the same one for the lighter) and place the wire across the female connector... then push the fuse into the female connector. good, safe & easy disable connection.

The other thing to consider given that it works after there is an audio signal is that the PAC is bad. There's not much to mess up in the wiring, unless you're hooking up a SWI-X or something else also (even then, instructions are pretty straightforward).
Or I hate to say it - it's not plugged in properly behind the HU? That's alot of effort to go through to check it - but can't think of anything else...
I would just order another one and tell your vendor that yours doesn't work right. Then just go through the install again and replace it.
