Wiring Straight from Carputer to Bose Amp
Wiring Straight from Carputer to Bose Amp
I'm in the middle of a carputer project where I am installing the double-din modification. This means I have no sterieo to work with. As a temporary solution, I am planning on running my audio directly from the sound card in the computer to the Bose amplifier. I was wondering how I might do this? What sort of cables do I need, and also, do I need to clean the signal up somehow? Eventually, I want to actually redo all of the audio system, but that won't happen until this summer probably.
P.S. If all goes well, this will be the first G35 with a motorized pop out LCD in the cubby area that looks stock. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Are you putting the MTS12000 into the cubby? Is there enough space in the back? I want to install while keeping the stock HU, do you think that's possible? The MTS12000 is a bit lengthy @ 7.5" deep, some newer motorized vga is only at 7" so I hope those can fit.
edit: Btw, please share picture of how you did your install

Yes, I am putting one in the cubby. I think it should work because it can go pretty upright. I will definitely post pics when I am done. Anyone able to answer my question?
Small jack to RCA cable..
The small jack plugs into your carputer sound card, and then run the red and white end of the RCA to the amp (if the BOSE has RCA inputs that is, but I doubt it.) If the BOSE does have RCA inputs, and there is already some thing plugged in there, get a 2 to 1 adapter. That should work for any after market amp because all after market amps come with RCA inputs.
So if all else fails, get another cheapo amp, bridge it with the BOSE amp (for power, ground, and speakers) and then just plug your RCA output from the carputer to the RCA inputs of the new amp and viola.
Keep in mind that if its a one channel amp, you will:
A. be forced to bridge with only one speaker on the BOSE amp (the + and - of any speaker you choose),
B. or if you bridge it with two speakers (i.e. + and - of front left and front right speaker), you might need to turn the gain up on your new amp because you will be loosing amplification to two speakers, which will drop your volume.
Disclaimer: At your own risk, I am not responsible for goof ups, thanks, please come again.
If you want to avoid all this, you can always get an FM modulator. They allow you to plug in RCA inputs and play your sound through an FM station on your car radio. Sound quality might not be up to par for you, but I would reccomend the Myron & Davis ANT 108 Universal wireless FM modulator...I think its the best out there.

I have removed the radio entirely, so an FM modulator will not work. I definitely want to go from the sound card to the amp. Anyone know if there are RCA inputs on the amp?

Here are the BOSE schematics...doesn't look like it. I don't know why they can't keep it aftermarket compatible...car companies to this on purpose!!! You might need a separate amp, and just bridge it with the BOSE (+/-) speaker signals....you will def have RCA inputs on it. And it might contribute to better sound...might.

That's right, since you are not keeping the stock HU u can mount the LCD straight up. Would you do us a favor? During your install can you take some quick measurement by trying to fit the LCD deck into the cubby while keeping the stock HU? See if you are able to fit the LCD deck and still keep the stock HU, if it stuck out can u tell us how much since some new LCD single din now comes in 7" deep only.
BTW, you are putting the LCD in clubby then what are you going to put into the cubby? another LCD?
