Mod: Fitting a Single Din system into an 03 G35 Sedan
As far as construction is concerned, i actually steered away from fiberglass because I was told that there may be some durability issues with a fiberglass piece that needed to be this thin and delicately sculpted.
I'd say 95% of that piece is hard OEM ABS plastic, and the rest of it is some kind of hard epoxy compound.
My custom piece actually based off the OEM lower center console. I ordered an extra part from the Grubbs Infiniti Dealership. Then, a single DIN hole was cut out in the top of that conosle piece (where the ashtray and hazard originally are). Afterwards, the single DIN frame/trim piece that came with my Pioneer unit was measured and fitted into the hole we cut in the console. These pieces were secured together with a small plastic frame. After that, I am told that a form of epoxy was used to bond everything together and mold the set pieces into the shape that you see in my pictures. After that, 6 layers of paint and wet sanding finished the project.
