Sound dampening Installations
Sound dampening Installations / Wiring options
I have a JL Audio 500/1 Amp and 10w6 (popular combo here) and the 4080 box on the way. I was interested in sound dampening my car but had a few questions.
1. Should I install the Dynamat/B-quiet/Fatmat BEFORE installation of audio equipment?
2. If I don't, will it be a pain to install it afterwards?
3. Did you guys take out your spare tire and fill that area in too?
4. What wires do I need? I'm just connecting the sub to the amp and the amp to the power source right? There's an electronics shop going out of business and they're selling a bunch of Monster Cables for 60%, I don't know which ones to get. They have some interconnector 401xlns and 301lxns and microxln's, but I don't know what to get.
Someone help please
I think that's it for now, thanks!

I did a full B-quiet/V-comp install. It's a lot of work (about 20 hours total) but the payoff is not bad. I reduced road noise by 6db - which means I cut the noise in half.
The full install requires completely removing the interior, carpet, trunk carpet etc. I have pics and am planning to post a DIY.
Bottom line, better sounding stereo, less tiresome ride, PITA to install.

Thanks, yeah I checked out that post, it's a great read.
Can anyone help me with wire choices? I heard that the thicker the wire, the better the sound of the speakers. Does anyone have any opinions on the Monster cables?

To answer your question, do it before. I've used dynamat, dynamat extreme and just recently some fatmat. They work the same, same install, but way difference in price. I bought the fatmat at 1/3 the cost for the same material.
I think any sound dampening is a GREAT thing to do in your car. Even if you don't have a bumpin system, it's a great add. Pile it on the fender wells too, the changes are dramatic.
