*HELP* - JL 500/1 amp
*HELP* - JL 500/1 amp
For those of you who are running a JL 10W6-V2 sub and JL 500/1 amp combo.
Is anyone having issues with radio reception after installing the JL 500/amp? For some reason the radio reception is basically non existant and the people who installed it said:
"when you use a class D amp, such as the JL 500/1, it may affect radio reception".
I don't really buy that answer, and im sure that many G'ers are running the JL 500/1 amp, and im sure not everyone loses radio reception after installing the JL 500/1. If that is the case, then I will just have to return the JL combo.
The amp is installed on the lower part of the back seat, and the sub is housed inside the 4080 box (Great box by the way, Thanks 4080!).
Has anyone encountered this issue? If so, how were they able to resolve this issue?
Thank you in advance,

Like I said, I really didn't buy this response. Other than that, he didn't really give a good answer. They opted to swap out the 500/1 for two smaller amps and bridge the two together.
Where do you have your amp installed? Is it possible to post a pic of your setup?
it sounds like you have the EXACT same setup as i have. i also had the amp installed against the back of the my rear fold-down seat. i'm a student in miami (go Canes!), so i've noticed no issues here. but now that you mention this, i remember i went home in north florida and did have SOME problems in terms of decreased reception.
i noticed this because we have another g35 coupe at home and the reception in the other car was somewhat more clear (i have to mention my parents live in a rural area to begin with).
but i looked it up a while back, and what your guy said is technically NOT wrong.
i did a lil bit of research and came up with some research on the topic.... and im sure some of the REAL audiophiles would know even more... but to make a long story short, subs use these class D amplifiers because they are the most efficient at creating lots of powerful to drive these huge magnets in subwoofers. they are also loved because of their small footprint and the fact that they can be bridged to really create some big time power. most of the people reading probably already know this (i didn't).
anyways.... i'd explain how these amps work, but i've realized i wouldn't know how to simplify the information... a lot of physics involved with waveforms and such.
but how does this all effect you? apparently class D amps have a high signal switching frequency, which CAN cause rf interference. now FM waves go in straight lines... so anything in their way can be a problem.... and this amp does just that, creating multi-path interference that causes problems to the FM tuner because it picks up more than one signal... creating echoes in your signal. this of course leads to distorted sound.
the only things i've seen that can be done to help would be to check with your audio shop and make sure the amplifier is properly grounded.
another thought would be to possibly add an output filter (if you dont already have one), because they can reduce electromagnetic interference...
and also, make sure you have decently shielded wiring.... basically... look for any source of interference that could be created. i even read somewhere the amplifier can be shielded? but i didn't know what that meant (it was a very technical article).
i really think you should be able to get your problem resolved though. i see you live in OC? so it's not a rural thing... i'd honestly see if your installer may have skimped somewhere... cause i'd bet that a good installer should be able to fix your issues fairly easily. i'd be surprised that a JL amp by itself is causing that much interference... i have 2 in my car now!
anyways... at least now you have some info! hope it helps....
