Question Stereo Advice

Thanks to any of you who respond! I have used the search function, and still need advice.

I am looking for a Double DIN HU with Nav/XM. Here is the kicker: I want to use my existing speakers (Bose with Premium Package '04 Sedan) and Do Not want to purchase any amps.

The question I have is: Assuming I have purchased the proper Double DIN kit, is there a unit (i.e. Poineer AVIC D1) that will power my existing Bose setup, without having to purchase any other amps?

My advice is you are going it all backwards IMO. You should upgrade the amps and speakers FIRST before the HU. Everyone knows the stock speakers are what makes the system crappy, not the HU.

Why have a more powerful HU with more bells and whistles if the stock components it will be driving are still crappy? Instead of having poor muffled sound quality, you'll end up with simply *louder* poor muffled sound quality. Sure, you might be able to tweak the treble and bass a little more with the aftermaket HU, but it will still sound substandard. For a non-audiophile, it won't make much difference, but if you are one who truly cares and can appreciate good sound quality, you will be unsatisfied. Just look at pictures of the stock speakers (which are on this website someplace).....you'll see why they are the limiting factors of the sound system....

IF you still want to go through with swapping out the HU first.... you might have to deal with resistance (ohm) incompatibility between the aftermarket HU and the stock Bose amp.

Again, this is my opinion based on my own extensive upgrade experiences....

I used an aftermarket head unit for a month before I upgraded the audio system.

I don't "mind" the Bose sound. I'm merely upgrading for the sake of integrated XM and Navi, which I didn't buy initially. I'm trying to keep costs at a minimum. Aftermarket speakers "may" come later.

Ditch all the stock stereo. I added amps and speaker to the HU. Big difference. Then I decided to do the DD conversion. After doing so, I must say WOW, what a difference. Get rid of the BLOSE. I still have the stock bose in the rear and have to fade mostly to the front. They sound CHITTY.

If you really want a stereo that sounds great, replace it all. If you want it to sound better, but not great, do it half A$$.

I cannot believe how good my car sounds now. It is amazing. You kind of forget what kind of quality is out there until you here it again. I kept saying the Bose was OK, but man what a POS.
