Using aftermarket headunit with stock amp and Nd woofer.... help!
Okay guys, when it comes to audio/video I'm a tard so bear with me here. I did a lot of searching but couldn't find any specific answers for my problem. If any of you audio gurus could help me out here it would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2004 Sedan with the Premium Package which means I have the Bose amp and Bose Nd woofer. I recently just replaced the stock headunit with an aftermarket one (Kenwood Excelon DDX7015) using the double din conversion. I hooked up the Kenwood unit using the Scosche wiring harness kit and of course the Scosche antenna adapter. My goal here was to replace only the headunit and at the same time retain the stock Bose speakers, amp, and Nd woofer. Now that I've done the install of the Kenwood headunit I've verified that all my speakers are working. The only thing that doesn't seem to be working is the Nd woofer. So my question is, is there something special I need to do/buy in order to get the stock Nd woofer to work with my new headunit? My headunit has RCA outs for a sub so I'm guessing I need some special adapter of some sort to make it work with the stock amp. Without the Nd woofer, the music just sounds like crap. TIA.
Are you sure the factory amp is turning on? The woofer is probably powered by the amp, which might be why it isnt working.
I believe on the 04 you have to run a 12v powered amp lead from back of the aftermarket deck, to the remote power terminal on your factory amp. Without this wire your amp will not turn on...

I'm using the Schosche NN03B wiring harness. One of the wires is a blue/white = Remote Turn On (12v+). On the Kenwood wiring harness there is also a blue/white wire labeled P. Cont. (Power Control Wire - When using the optional power amplifier, connect to it's power control terminal). I'm guessing hooking these wires up should send power to the amp which powers the woofer? My friend hooked up the wiring for me while I was working on other parts of the install so I don't remember if that one was hooked up or not. Thanks again. Sorry for the noob like questions.
If I remember correctly, all of the speakers are powered by the amp.. therefore if the amp is not powered, than the speakers won't work either

That's what I'm seeing as well from the wiring diagram from the ESM. So what I don't get is why the woofer isn't working even though all the other speakers are. I'm still thinking that I need to connect the sub rca outs from the back of the kenwood unit to the amp somehow. Anyone else have any other ideas?

Your HU will power 4 speakers with 50 watts through your wire harness. So even if the amp isn't turned on, your HU could be powering those speakers....
Run the system for while with the car off and touch the amp to see if it hot.

Okay, I'll try that this long weekend and see where that gets me. If it turns out to be that the amp is not on then that will be the easier case. If it turns out that the amp is on then I would have to wonder why the amp is not running the woofer but yet still running the other 4 speakers. This would be the more difficult case. I remember from my last car I had to use this adaptor in order to get my new HU to work with the factory amp.
Doesn't look like Nissans have this kind of connection to the Bose amp.

I found this product while searching through the web. Anyone know if this would help? Looks like I could connect the RCA Sub outs from my HU to that adapter and get the woofer working that way? Where are all the audio gurus at?

My friend had to use that exact harness in his 04 Maxima. You have to connect the rca's to your pre-out's.
With the normal Nissan harness he wasnt getting any sound at all, and with this one it worked.
Your speakers do work though, just not your sub. If you cant figure it out, I say its worth a shot.
