My DOUBLE DIN + Pioneer AVIC-D1 Conversion **PICS**

All, I just bought my 2005 IP Infiniti G35 6MT Coupe about a month ago. I ordered my DD kit from Yosi. He was awesome. It ran $408 shipped. I also ordered a Pioneer AVIC-D1. I bought from Ebay, new shipped to my door for $1120. I also needed to get the Scosche NN03 Nissan wiring harness, and the Nissan 2 prong antenna adapter.

As far as the install goes, I hooked up the pink speed sensor wire (to the white/green wire on the 10x2 harness behind the stock unit). I grounded the green parking brake wire (which allows me to use the functionality of the HU while driving). I left the purple Reverse sensor wire floating (since I won't hook up a backup camera).

Props to BlackonBlackG35 and others for paving the way and answering questions. For new installers I wouldn't recommend doing this yourself. If you have done it before, it's a fun project, much more complex than a standard HU in a normal car. Like BonBG35, I put the GPS antenna on the front right corner of the dash. I also had to sand down my trim piece to get it to fit right. Wasn't too bad.

Later I plan to replace all my speakers, add amps, subs, and a DVD changer. I am about to order my PAC SWI-PS so I can use my steering wheel controls. Will post on that when I've done it.

So here are the pictures of the install. Enjoy!

Great install inno, if only the dd kit wasnt so expensive. I was planning on getting an N1 or N2, but now I may just attempt to do the addon 7" where the stock screen is normally placed instead.

Well you need that DD kit regardless of what head unit you want in there! So you might as well get what you want!

I was thinking of going the 7" lcd screen with an xbox route. Otherwise id have to go about $1200 for the d1, $400 for the dd kit and still go with an xbox. How do you like your D1?

I like the D1. There is no way to do video while driving if you want that ability. Other than that, the GPS is great. It's an easy to use HU, and has lots of upgradability.

Glad I could help. Congrats on the new ride and the sweet system!!

Your lucky you have a 6mt so the shifter doesn't get in the way. Although now that I think about it, I've had the same mp3 cd in there for over a month....

I think if you leave the speed sensor wire disconnected or put a switch in the line, you should be able to view video while driving. Haven't tested it yet cuz I'm too lazy to go back in there....

Also I see you mounted it high, you can modify the existing bracket to get the HU centered like below...

There is an internal gyro though that senses movement, though it can't give exact speed. So that will still prevent the dvd while driving thing from what I understand. Yeah I figure I could have adjusted the head unit in the bracket to get it more in the middle, but I don't mind it the way it is. Maybe I'll play with it when I get my PAC SWI-PS, since I'll have to take it all apart then. Thanks again for the tips!

The other thing I'm toying with is putting an additional monitor where the stock GPS goes. I could run that as the rear monitor and have DVD while I drive that way!

It would be ideal to have it motorized and hide down in the cubby hole though for theft purposes. Dunno. Next project is my PAC and my new rearview mirror.

That looks nice Inno, I am going the same route with my sedan, just trying to decide between the Pioneer D1 and the Eclipse. I also read your post about the rearview mirror, it's funny because I also bought my sedan non-premium and the only thing that I want from the premium package is that rearview mirror. I am going to go and look for that mirror thread.

Looking good

I thought about the Eclipse. If you want to play DVD while driving, get that one. If you don't care about that, I like the Pioneer better. It's also quite a bit less expensive.

Regarding the mirror, you can get the 50-GENK40 which is the same auto dimming homelink rearview mirror for $217.95 online.

I'm hoping I'll get clearance with my Momo shift **** on my AT.
It's a little shorter than the OEM ****.
I'll be installing on the weekend & let you know.

Noticed that too, it's a PITA to fiddle with the bracket to get centered (drilled new holes), but worth a little extra time.
Also I put a fine belt on my belt sander which makes sanding the plastic trim really easy.
Just clamped the sander to the work bench & have both hands free to shape the plastic.

Looking nice! Back when I did my Eclipse install, that was the only real double DIN Nav choice, so it is good to see that Pioneer has provided an option now.
