NAV relocation?

Has anyone relocated their NAV unit from the upper glove box?

I am thinking of doing the NAV to DVD conversion but am having a hard time finding a good place to mount the DVD player. Since you hardly ever have to get at the NAV unit I thought of moving it under the passenger seat (or somewhere out of the way) and putting the DVD player where the NAV unit currently is.

Am I off my rocker? Has anyone done this, or know if it can be done?

Theoretically you can, but the problem is the length of the factory harness will not allow it. A good place to relocate the factory NAV drive is actually the dead space right under the factory stereo or to the right of the passenger foot. So if you can find the harness or "extension harness" for the NAV drive, I am sure relocation is not a problem.

Just extend the wires in the harness. Pain in the ***, but absolutely doable.

FIY there are 40+ wires to splice and dice. PITA is right. Still... I am considering it.
