Wiring Cables to my Trunk! Some questions

Hey guys, I'm redoing my carputer setup. Currently have a computer that sits under the passenger seat but I am going with a more robust setup with the computer sitting in the trunk now. I already have a sub and amp so there are wires going up to the main battery on the right side. Can someone tell me the proper procedure to run wires with my other power wires already running up? Will I run into any problems doing so that way? Do I have to run them on the left side of the car possibly?

Also, for those with a carputer, are you running your VGA, RCA audio, USB along with those power wires for your carputer? The way it seems like I'm going to have a bunch of wires and not sure if its possible to run all those.

I'm going wtih an Opus 150 and want the cleanest possible install and would like to avoid seeing all the VGA, USB cables if possible.

Thanks!

The grommet by the battery is huge so you'll be able to fit as many cables as you want really. Just reseal the hole

I run my VGA, audio and USB along the drivers side and my power along the passenger side

You can pull up the carpet and run the wires below it on both sides of the car but I'm not sure it's a good idea to run all the wires along with the amp wire on the same side. It would be a hassle to redo it after finding interference/static.

I ran the power wires down the passenger side and all audio rca/speaker wires down the driver side.. rule of thumb that I've learned is that you don't want to run them next to each other due to magnetic interference or something

I ran the power lines (for amp and OPUS, and a return line for my LCD) on the drivers side. Everything else (5 pair of RCA - don't ask why [miscalculation, 3 pair are cheap quality - only use 1 for mic/headset, 2 high quality - use from HU to Extigy], VGA, 2 USB [1 for touchpad, 1 for hub/DVD in arm rest], 2 RG6 coax [rear view display+1 spare]) runs on the passenger side.

I think it could fit all on one side, but I did not want to risk the interference everyone talks about. It's not really that bad running both sides separately. Especially if you're gonna dynamat in the process (worth it if you take the rear panels off).

[And hehe, more desi drive g35s than I thought]

BTW - forgot to add that I had a spare CAT5 run. Had no idea at first what I might need it for. But it turned out very handy - I am so far using 6 of the 8 wires in that cable for a carputer power switch, reset switch, and a hard drive LED (all in the center arm rest). If you're running WinXP - it comes in *real* handy.

Thats pretty sweet you are running the CAT5 for that. What device did you use to have the power, reset switches? Would def. come in handy im sure.

Hmmm,

Not certain I understand your question about what device? The power switch, reset switch, and hard drive are all wired to the carputer's motherboard in the trunk. I picked up the switches and LED at Radio Shack. I just soldered them on at one end and wrapped the three tightly together with electrical tape - looks neat. It's hidden away, but I can reach in and pull out 12 inch of looped CAT5 wire that terminates with two buttons (one red, one black) with a flashing red LED in the middle. Now that I think about it - it looks like the trigger for a bomb. (And I often feel like blowing up Win XP).

when I meant device, I meant "switches" and a panel to house them. You said you got them from Radio Shack? I'll try posting pics when i'm done. im just waiting on some wires to come in but I think I can do the install in a week or two hopefully. I have all the wires already going to my carputer that sits underneath my passenger seat - just have to configure my Mobo to handle the Opus and waiting on the Centrafuse 2.0 beta release already!!!
