I think there is a TSB regarding this (known issue) - might want to contact the dealer as I believe it requires a HU swap. I think several have posted on this - so hopefully someone will confirm...

i had the same issue as you and took it to the damn dealer in Plano, Texas (Crest Infiniti). The @ss service director told me that my audio portion of my warrany was not longer covered due to the aftermarket products that i have:subs/amps/speaker.....did not bother explaining how the after products actually "caused" the problem he just would not work with me... i called Grubbs explained the scenario and they said "bring it by We don't think the issue is caused by the after products it sounds like the cd player switching mechanism etc....". i decided to clean the cd player before making the hour trip to Grubbs and guess what the damn cd player started working properly.....

I read a few posts about this problem awhile back. Somebody said that when they went over bumps it would cut in and out. Since I was not experiencing this at the time, I just took it to notice.
Then the other day, mine did the same thing. Driver side speakers seemed to not play higher frequencies, only low and muffled bass. I gave the HU a solid whack on the side and it started playing like normal again. All I could think was, damn, I pay this much money for a supposed "high-tech" car, with DVD-NAV and multi disc CD stereo and I have to hit it to make it play right . . . just like I had to do with my cheap old skipping record player from my youth.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I too heard that it was a HU problem and replacement was the only fix, however, I am going to try a cleaning as was suggested above, before I go down to talk with the "service department".

be careful though. I had my HU replaced for this very same problem just a few weeks ago and now I have a few problems. The the driver side door speaker will sometimes be the only one that plays CD music. The passenger side door speaker will be the only one that plays CD music. And when i turn to radio either the driver side door speaker will have lower volume than the others or the passenger side door speaker will have lower volume than the others. Plus now my passenger side window motor is on the fritz so yea. high-tech $40000 car my @ss so yea just be aware that the problem might comeback or it might comeback even worse

i have had mine replaced twice. the problem is that the replacements are refurbished units, and they were probably messed up at one time too. the service manager that i talked to said that they do not give out new units.
