Unhappy WTF !!! $1300 for stereo install

I purchased the following on ebay & other sites -
JL Audio 500/5 Amp; JL Audio 10W6v2 10" Sub; 4080 Box; Infinity Kappa 60.7CS 6-1/2" (Front); Infinity Kappa 63.7i 6-1/2" (Rear Side)

There is an installer in my area (Burlington, NJ) that does great work. I asked him to give me a quote for the installation job. I know that it will be a bit high since I have my own equipment and he does not get the profit on that.

Today he quoted me $1300 for the install.
WTF !!!
I think he just does not want to do the job so is driving me away with the high $$$

What do you think?

Anybody want to recommend a reasonably priced but good installer in NJ; NYC or Philly areas

Thats outrageous...I am mangaer of a stereo shop here in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is pretty much a price guide I would typically charge a G35 coupe to let you know how bad this guy is trying to get you for.
-5 Channel Amplifier installation $120
-Box installation $100 (probably less, would have to check out the 4080 box in person)
-Infinity Component front speaker installation $80
-Infinity rear speaker installation $50
-Hi/Low Converter and Remote Turn on $50
-4 Gauge amplifier wiring kit + misc. materials $100
That right there is $500 for everything including materials. There is no way he can really justify a $1300 installation price quote unless for some reason he thought he was building you a 4080 style box himself.

That's pretty cheap but does that quote include running new speaker wires to all 4 speakers?

Ask him what does that $1300 include in a sarcastic way. I mean shlt, you can get a nice sound setup AND have it installed for that same price, if not less out here in SoCal.

I call BS. Out here alot of shops have a hard time installing stuff that isn't thiers for warranty reasons, but those that do, its like 100-200 bucks for the install w/o parts of course.

We would run new speaker wire to the components in the front, but would probably tap into the stock speakers for the rear. I can run all new wiring to all speakers for about another $40. As a matter of fact, any G35driver member will get a better price at my place. As far as customer equiptment is concerned, I don't mind installing it but a warranty is valid only on labor.

FWIW, I just did a similar install and it took me 22 hours. I also did Dynamat on the whole interior (minus floor) which probably took a good chunk of time. Hopefully that will help you gauge this.

I paid $1500 for double din conversion, but that includes part and labor. I would thing amps would cost around $120 a piece and not sure about the rest. Seems kinda high.

peet - he said that it would take him 20 hours to do the install.

He even rescheduled my appointment because he said he had a MB AMG that was previously scheduled. The guy's work is really quality stuff. But WTF $1300 is too much and the only time I wired a stereo system was in college and I blew everything up. I need a professional.

Any recommendations in NJ; NYC; Philly; DE

I would have done it for about half the price, but unfortunately my next few weeks are pretty well booked up..

Yeah, 1300 is ridiculous. Wherever you do go, don't forget to let us know what the final price ended up being.
