I'm trying to decide which speakers to put in my car. Should I do Focal or Polk?

 

Have you listened to either? No one can tell you what your ears are going to like. That's why there are so many speakers manufacturers out there, because they all bring a different sound and one will be out there that you will like. What price range are you looking at? I can suggest some brands to look at, ranging from something that is really bright to something that is warm in sound. Hope this helps

 

I have Focals Polyglass 165V2 on my doors and Polk DB650 Coax on the rear sides. I like the combination but like CLS2G35 posted its all on the person's audio perception.

 

CLS2G35 offers some good advice; have you listened to these speakers? I would head down to a reputable stereo shop and listen to the speakers in a vehicle. After that make your decision as to what sound best. Good luck and great listening.

 

I've listened to both of them. They both sound clean, but different. I like both of them, and they are about the same price... $500 something for front & around $200 for rear. I've heard a lot of good things about Focal, but I haven't really heard anything about Polk. I was scheduled to have Focal's installed on the 1st, but they are on back order, and I wanted them installed for a car show. So, the sales manager had me listen to the Polk speakers, and I can have them installed tomorrow. I just wanted to make sure I don't make a mistake purchasing these speakers, because I didn't want to wait.

 

I had Polks in my last car and really liked them! But I haven't heard the Focals so I'm probably not much help. None-the-less I liked the Polks alot.

 

When it comes to speakers I wouldn't be too concerned with wheather or not you've heard of the brand. On that note Polk does have a good reputation, but I will suggest this don't skimp and remember that a 2 min audition usually isn't enough to tell whether you can live with speakers. You really need to listen to them, because many times speakers can end up fatiging and you won't want to listen to them. Either way both companies are well known. Hope this helps

 

You can also check out reviews online...lots of people post the pros and cons of each as well as known problems (if any).

 

I personally would choose the Focals, although I dont run either in my car. Theres a alot of good advice above as far as th listening to them and the longevity of them over time. I would still shop around a bit. Everyones ears are different and you may even end up liking something more. See if its also possible to audition these in a car. Most shop owners/employees run their products in their own cars. Listening in a soundroom will sound worlds different than in an enclosed car.

Other lines to look into *could* be...

DLS,Rainbow,Arc,Diamond,Illusion,Morel,Dynaudio,CD T,etc..

 

I have heard got reviews on polk but I for one think that you should look into kicker. I swear by them, but that's just my taste.

 

Melissa what other components are going into your system? Are you just planning on running these speakers on the factory amp?

 

Personal preference. MB Quart. Not necessarily the top of the line Q series, but the ones right below them. They've change the name of that line sooooo many times, I don't ever go by their names anymore.

 

MB Quart, great company......but typically very bright. Good suggestion though. And I think you're talking about the Reference Premiums.

 

I don't rember the the focal speakers I was looking at, because I've gone back and forth so much. I do know that they were more on the lower end. The setup I'm thinking about doing from Polk is: SR6500-front, MMC650-rear, JL304-front amp, JLW6 10"-sub, JL501-sub amp.

 

True. At first I was surprised at how bright they were, but I just dimmed down the tweeter at the xover and then it sounded really nice. And now, when I listen to other components, they sound kind of muddy. Perspective I guess.
