Which sub box is better?

I am building a custom box and can't decide which is better sealed or vented.
I am going to be using 2 s10L7 solarbarics. Any info with help.

Better for what? The different types of enclosure perfrom well for different things. If you want punchy accuracy, I would choose a sealed enclosure or a well built ported enclosure. If you looking for loud I would consider bandpass or ported. To really make the the Kicker 10" L7s rock, I would suggest a 2 cubic ft slot port enclosure per subwoofer. I would contact Kicker technical help they'll be your best bet.

2 S10L7 I would say put in a sealed enclosure. Nice compact space. And you can find the specs of the suggested boxes depending if you want to go for SPL or SQL in their manual or online. I've put my S12L5 in sealed and ported... the ported it sure gets low. But like CLS2G35 said... depends what kind of sound. You can tune a ported box for different sounds be changing the length of the port. But if space is an issue sealed is your best option.

Frizzle is right, if space is an issues then go the sealed route. Like Frizzle I've seen L7s in both types and all I can say is the ported route is unreal. I've built a system in a Chevy full size 2 door blazer with 2 12" L7s in a 5 cubic foot box slot ported running off a Phoenix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 amp it was unreal. One last thing you will get better low end extention with a ported enclosure.

That depends on the tuning frequency and roll-off the system. Ported systems roll-off much faster below the -3dB down point, usually at 18 - 24dB/octave. I am a big fan of ported systems, given that the space is available.

CLS2G35 is correct, there is no magic box that does it all. Decide what you are trying to achieve and build the appropriate enclosure. Good luck.

I was making a general statement about ported enclosure. And most people built them to get that low end extention.

I personally like sealed boxes. Yeah, they don't play as loud as bandpass or ported, but the bass accuracy is generally better and you can play nice quality very low frequency bass although you'll probably have to have a bit more power to do so.

You are correct about sealed enclosures being able to play low with more power, but ported enclosure can be very accurate too. They are just a lit bit more difficult to get right unless, you have some type of guide for your subwoofer or a box building program.
