I don't have navi, but I do a lot of movie back-ups, so I'm trying to speculate possible issues which may or may not actually apply. It's the best I can do .

With burned DL's, it's hardly ever an actual "Hardware" issue on the player's part per se. These days the physical limitations of an unsupporting player are superficial, but their existence has allowed for DL burners and media to flourinsh without significant complaint from the movie industry. The limitation is rapidly fading.

Does the OEM nav boot up a DVD movie? Is this a hardware issue? Anything can be hacked, but without an OS interface, it's hard to see what's going on to see what's needed to bypass. If you confirm the original is dual and you correctly burn it and it still doesn't work, you'll know the challenge is real.

Apparently the factory NAV DVD drive does not have any hardware DVD video support, so it's not a software issue. I wonder why anyone would even bother making DVD drives like that these days. I wonder if they will impliment DVD movies into 06 G35 NAV system similar to what was done for the M35/45. It would only cost a few bucks on the manufacturer part.

As far as the NAV disc, come on people~

The NAV disc that I use with my Eclipse is only 1 layer. I'll see if I can make a copy that works as soon as I get my burner fixed. Hopefully sony will warranty it. My laptop is only a few months old so I'll let you know when I do it.

Great news. I've successfully copied my own verson of Navi v6.1 dvd. I've been driving around with a copy in my navigation for 2 days and it works just as the original dvd which somehow got a few scratches on. I was a bit upset about damaging or loosing it, and always wanted to keep my original disk stored at home.... so here we go...

Some info: the original DVD is a Dual Layer disk, with over 8.1gb of data
Software that will NOT properly copy the navi dvd: Nero, Roxio Easy Cd Creator, Sonic junk, Alcohol 120% (My appologies fo suggesting it before, it actually refuses to burn due to size of the blank dvd)
Software that works: UltraISO, CloneCD, i used a 21 day trial...
Dual Layer Media: Verbatim DL DVD Disks @$16/3pk Buy.com
Drive used: NEC 3520A, latest firmware

I used a UltraISO to make image of the DVD first, for safekeeping and whatnot, i tried a bunch of image options: ISO, Nero, CloneCD, and the CloneCD image is the one I burned using Clone CD software... If you want to make a few $6 coasters you may try to use clonecd straigh, but who wants to do that.... anyway it took about 40 min to rip dvd, and then i burned it using CloneCD at 2.4x as a safety precaution, as my crappy dell has problem burning disks at high speed, due to slow hdd.

I hope this will put an end to this discussion.

P.S. Don't copy that floppy! err DVD!

Nice work animalz! This is perhaps worthy of a DIY or sticky.

great stuff! I have a LaCie that says NEC (according to windows) which is a DualLayered. I'll check to see if my NAV DVD is still in 100% good condition. I hope it is as I have never taken it away.

i got a few more blank d/l dvds left. As an EXPERIEMENT, if someone on this board lives in Brooklyn, Queens or NYC and has a navi disk v6.3, and has some free time i can try to make them a copy, at no charge.

nobody here is selling navigation software. if you want a latest version go to zenrin.com, plunk $190 for a DVD and be happy. We on the other hand trying to backup our original disks as they are pretty delicate creatures. and as far as i know, you cannot just copy a new version and put it in your car, as you will also need a special update disk to flash the navigation to work with the latest version.
