i made a copy of my disk today (got interested when i first saw the thread)... it wasnt very hard and everyone is just leaving out one step if they arent successful.

Rip the DVD (it is dual layer) to the computer.. i did it was 1x so it took some time
then i burned the image to a dual layer dvd ($4 each ouch) but the thing i did differently is changed the book type. When you burn a dvd the book type is a burned image... if you change the book type burned on the dvd to dvd-rom or whatever, the player in the car cant tell the difference in this one and the original. I have noticed that my nav works a little slower and responds less quickly to touch screen functions

ive had a few requests to burn people copy's of my disk... i just dont feel too comfortable sending out illegal copies of a disk that i dont know if they really have or not. Its a very simple burn. You must make it a dvd-rom and not a dvd-r or dvd+r.... its not too difficult. Do it at a slow speed like 1x and after a couple of hours you hvae yourself a burned backup

A DVD Movie = $20
A Navigation DVD = $100-400
Do the math. This is very ILLEGAL.

personally i think it's rediculous that the DVD disk costs $200 and it outdates every 12 months! I mean, if you were to buy one today, it will be outdated in like Oct...so you're paying $200 to have up to date navi for 6-7 months...thats kind of rough. Just my $0.02 worth tho

Well $200/12 months = $16.67 a month

Not bad.. considering I use it everyday...
