Bose systems vary a good bit. Some use 2-ohm voice coils where the standard aftermarket speaker is a 4 ohm.
If your sedan uses 2 ohm speakers then the Bose amp will only deliver 1/2 the power (watts) to a 4 ohm replacement.
I personally suspect that the only 2-ohm speaker in the sedan is the subwoofer, if any, but I haven't had a chance to meter them yet.
But on top of that, don't go to short circuit city. They suck a**.
Where are you geographically? Tell us and we can help you find a real specialist that knows something about audio and electricity. Most CC guys are either the too-young-and-green, or the washed-up, due to what they pay installers. The good ones go eslewhere to work.

thanks for the great input. i dont know much about stereo equipment. i just want to get a better and louder audio without spending a fortune. i live in houston, tx.
Hey tito, I have a 2003 sedan with bose system. I wanted better quality sound and recently replaced my front bose speakers with MB Quarts (reference series) - these come as seperates (speaker plus tweeters with crossover). I kept everything else factory (head-unit and amp). Future plans are to replace the amp and sub-woofer.
The sound is noticibly better - more mid range and much better clarity, but I suspect these speakers are waaaay underdriven and will really kick with a better amp.
But for sure - go for it!

I heard that is not possible. The factory headunit runs off of the factory amp, which runs the whole system. Originally Posted by titojojo

The fronts are 6.5's, you have 2 sets of rears...on the sides,, i'm not sure maybe a 4" or 4x6 or sumtin. the upper rearspeakers near the window are 6x9's.

It is possible to use the stock head unit and replace the Bose amp and speakers. You can achieve pretty good sound this way too.
