Almost Bought MB Quart components untill the sales men talked me out!

I was at Tweeter Audio a couple of days ago and I was looking at a set of MB QUart Front components priced around $450. I am currently running a 2 channel Infiniti AMP to my Two 10" Infiniti subs, utilizing a LOC From the Stock Bose HU. I have another 4 Channel Infiniti AMP in my garage in brand new condition from my MR2 taht I wanted to use. Told the salesman about it, and let him know that I wass planning on using a LOC. He said that I would have less clarity using that set up because of the LOC. Even if I used the JL clean swaps I STILL would have better clarity using the Bose then do9ing the upgrade...so he says. He said that the best thing to do is to change the HU and re-wire from there. IS this making any sense to any one? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

He is technically correct, and wrong, at the same time.

The difference is not that bad when the interface is properly done.

THe ultimate in SQ is attained with a new HU.

But you can get VERY good sound short of that. But a salesman at Tweeter ain't gonna know much about the electrical side of interfacing.

He probably doesn't know the diff between balanced and single ended preamp outs, or balanced and speaker level signals.

But that's just a guess. Aren't there good custom shops in Philly?

Yea. I mean, unless you are a true audiophile, you probably wont be able to notice the difference between a new HU and using the JL clean sweep. Yes, there will be a difference in sound, but most people would be more than satisfied with just the LOC setup or the clean sweep.

My advice would be to go the LOC/clean sweep route and see what you think. Get the Quarts if you like them. If the sound quality is still not good enough for you, then you can consider swapping the hu.

My guess is that you will be pretty satisfied without changing the hu. Unless, of course, you are as picky as I am about sound quality, in which case only the best will do. lol

Hey guys thanks so much for your help! Its highly appreciated! I think im gonna try the clean swaps on a set of Infiniti referance components that I have in my Garage, and if it sounds < or = to the Bose, I'll go ahead with a higher quality component system. Thanks again!

hey i just want you to know i actually have the mb quart premium 6.5 component set with a 300/4 jl amp... and you will DEFINITELY notice a significant increase in sound quality.

if you really are crazy about sound, go for the headunit... but im glad i didnt do it right away (i also didnt want it to look aftermarket, since my car's already been broken into once)

I'd say a LOC is perfectly fine. I mean critical listening shouldn't even be done in a running automobile. There's just simply too much road noise to justify a setup for absolute clarity. So it's not absolutely critical to change out the head unit for good enough sound.

To be honest, the bose system is all that and so anything you do to the system will be an improvement.

On another note: Hey G35AUDIOMAN. Who is that in your avatar. She is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!!

I put QSD's in the front of my car with LOC. A hell of a lot better than stock, but got noise.

I did the DD conversion and put in a Kenwood headunit. The difference is night and day. Save up some money and do the DD conversion if you are a real audiophile. If you just want it to sound better, stick with LOC and whatever speaker you want.
