Front component install

I'm going to attempt a front component install this week/weekend and wanted some advice from those of you who have DIY.

This is for an 03 coupe w/ Bose.

I'm assuming the stock speakers use plugs to connect to the wiring. What colors correspond to +/- on each side for the 6.5 and tweeter?

http://digitalwheelz.com/diy/boseAmpWiringColors.html for the colors as they enter/leave the Bose amp.

I'll try and dig up the +/- colors as they connect to the tweeters and woofers shortly (I need this too as I'm in the process of doing the same install... driving this week with no driver-side door panel )

From experience don't use the 3/4 mdf wood mounting rings use the stock speaker mounts if at all possible. Reason being is there will still be a gap between the speaker and the inside the door. This will cause you to lack severly in the midbass dept. I tried it and was very dissatisfied with the outcome of my boston pro60's. I read on this fourm that using the stock speaker pod would make it sound better, I switched to them and man, night and day different now my 6.5's sound like I have an 8" sub in the cabin. Do a search for my posts in the sound fourm for pics. Good luck.

Hey kennyq45, I found your posts but the pics are garbled. If you can, please repost pics.

Thanks.

Over the past week I used the 3/4" MDF method and while I am happy with the midbass, I think some of my rattling and clarity could be improved if I close the gap you're talking about.

As I want to keep my stock speakers (in case I ever sell the car, going to return it to stock) intact, my plan to close this gap is to either:

1. Get some more wood and attach another ring to the top of the 3/4" MDF ring to bring it flush or

2. Attach rings of sound dampening material to create a thick raised "gasket" to close the gap.

I just cut my speaker rings this weekend also, but I haven't mounted them up yet. How much of a gap do you think there is? I used 3/4" as well.

I'm really bad at subjective measurement "guesstimations" but I'm going to say between 1/8" and 1/2" ???
