That won't do the trick. They are not forward nor backward compatible with eachother. Again, a firmware update is needed at the very least.

I'm praying they did not increase the on-board hardware memory capacity, a requisite for the 7-series software? Just thinking out loud.

So how would one go about doing a firmware upgrade? I'm assuming a program on a dvd won't work? Any computer geniuses out there-Hook it up!

That's so sexy! I'd like my '05 to have that navi program.

if there isn't much wiring difference, could you not just buy an 06 brain and swap it out with the 05? I have little knowledge about this stuff, and I am assuming that the brain is located where you put the DVD in. If this is the case would it not just be a simple swap out? Granted I'm sure it would be stupid expensive to get a new 06 brain, but would it be a possibility?

I was thinking the same thing...if the '06 DVD Nav control unit was plug and play with earlier units, could we replace it directly? (assuming all the necessary upgraded hardware was inside the DVD box). I did a search on the forums for DVD unit prices and they sell for ~$2600 At that price it wouldn't be worth it.

There's gotta be a cheaper solution! Anyone?

I spoke with Zenrin USA tech support and they said that there are no changes in the underlying software between 6.x and 7.x versions. It's the different hardware between '05 and '06 that makes them incompatible, but I guess we knew that already.

Judging by those screens there is NO WAY our antique NAV would be able to handle all that data stream. Heck, trying to rotate the screen in the birdeye mode already gives our systems a heart attack. I seriously doubt our old Gameboy technology NAV can be upgraded to the 2006 using only a programming update.

On a performance note, is the operation of this new NAV system faster than the 2003-2004 systems? The point of an upgrade would be dull if the system only looked pretty, but was just as laggy, or worse, than our older versions. Has anyone played around with this new system in person?

Thats the only thing I regret not getting on my car, well I had ordered it with one but would have had to wait till the 06 since no 05 Black M6 were available anymore.

yes the new nav system is a little better system and you can find some addresses by phone number now as well as a more detailed places of interest.

We would just have to upgrade the processor/hardware end of the Nav(The part in the glovebox)

the screen and the controls should be able to remain.

I'd rather just sink the money into a Avic D1 and replace our HU.
Use the Original Navi screen for a CarPC
Use the D1 for Navi, DVD and games.

How much would the processor/hardware cost?

Maybe since my navi is acting all retarded, i can ask the dealership to put a new 06 dvd player since they have to replace my current one. That would be nice
