Has anyone been able to determine if its possible to just switch out the 03-05 brain (part in the area above glovebox) for an 06 one? Are the plugs the same to the extent that you could just plug and play? This appears to be the only possible way of making this work, if its viable.

If switching the units was possible, then if we wait a while longer, some 06's can probably be found in junk yards with the navi hardware intact and purchased for much cheaper than what the dealer wants for one new.

Yes. We all have that annoying issue. However, KP Technologies (who make a series of practical modules for the G) developed a Nav bypass module which presses the OK automatically and allows you to input while driving. I am the test mule and it should be installed this weekend. We'll know more really soon.

Not sure how Infiniti's Navi is, but on GM's navi, there is a 2 disc set to do an upgrade. Insert disc one, and start the car. Navi boots the disc, and the screen changes to: "Loading new firmware....".

Then when it's done, you remove disc one, and put disc 2 (the actual navi dvd), and leave it in the drive.

Similar to how a lot of consumer devices now, can be flashed with new firmware.
