Looks like the 2006 navi got an update, now the question is can the 2005 or older navi be updated as well? anyone have any info on that or have tried to do it? it seems feasible if there was an update DVD or something like that... unless the hardware changed... and from the 2006 pics everything looks totally different.

You likely can't. Zenrin issues CD-ROMs to update the firmware of the Nav unit with its updates, so if the new version could run on it, we'd probably all be going to 7.0. But they've started a 7.x branch while continuing to update the 6.x branch.

It probably wouldn't make sense for Zenrin to maintain two sets of updates for two branches if they didn't need to. I think we're stuck with 6.4. =/

somebody should borrow the 7.x program cd and map dvd from a dealer and TRY it on a '05.

worse case, you can roll back to 6.3/6.4, little to no chance of permanent damage.
