Best Buy
Best Buy
I think I have asked this before, can't seem to find it on the Forum.
Tomorrow Best Buy is installing my rear speakers. MbQuart PCE 216 6.5's. Will these fit in the rear Panels. I swear I read someone had this but they needed to use spacers. I am not installing the tweets, but that probably does not make a difference in mounting depth.
Also is Best Buy a reputable place to install something as simple as speakers. I know nothing is really simple on this car compared to others and I am a little worried.

You will need spacers
I installed 216's in my Coupe and you definitely will need spacers for the mids. I took the bose mids and outlined them on some 3/4th'' mdf, including the holes for the mounting bolts and checked my Quartz mids on it to mod. the shape if nec. I used a jig saw to cut the center out and the outside, leaving a mdf ring about an inch wide with three "ears" for holes for the mounting bolts, the same shape as the bose speaker which has its spacer/mounting bracket basically built into the speaker. I then put the Quartz mids back on the MDF and marked the speakers mounting holes, drilled the holes, mounted the MDF spacer on the door (you will need slightly longer bolts than the originals) and then mounted the speakers onto the MDF. They fit good and I've had no problems.
Surprised Best Buy would work on your car... I was in there looking at some speakers and an amp for ***** and giggles, asked them how much for install and when I told them I drove a G they said they wouldn't touch a G for liability purposes.
Best Buy is about as low as installer quality comes. well that and circuit city. what area are you guys in? im moving to the san jose area and i know those cars top to bottom if you ever need any work done.

I already had a double din and amp install, but needed the rear 6.5's done. My friend is a local installer and offered to do everything (but DD) for me as a favor for free or cheap. It has been a year and a half and $700, most of it is done, but I needed this and my sub. I am tired of waiting on him. Three plus months to build a box after waiting almost a year and a half and I am done with him.
I talked to the installer, showed him some things, he appeared competent and confident. I am not worried. All he has to do is run some wires and maybe make a spacer.
I am expecting my 4080 box anyday and will finish that myself since everything is already wired. Then this pain in my A$$ will be over.
Install
No offense intended to Best Buy or Circuit City, but PLEASE don't take your G there. I know it sounds simple and actually it is, but I just wouldn't risk them doing an install on your G.

It was just about my only option in this town. One place my friend works at and probably does the best work, but I am avoiding him right now. Another pissed me off years ago, and the other Car Audio shops are GHETTO.
I'm fairly confident that all aftermarket components will need spacers for the front. The mounting scheme that Bose uses it bizzare. You need to build a spacer ring to create a way to mount the components, and then often times you need to add foam or some other gasket to "seal" the spacer against the door panel (as 3/4" MDF, what people are often using for the spacers, is not tall enough to do so).
