line driver reccomendations?

i have an avic-d1 and i want to boost the output signal from 2v to around 6v. anybody have any recomendations as to what brand? i need a 6 channel. im thinking of the phoenix gold tantrum tld66. its about $125. should i go with the AUDIOCONTROL MATRIX 6 CHANNEL CAR AUDIO LINE DRIVER, but it costs 175... is the audiocontrol that much better? i know it has a 13v max compared to the tantrum's 8v max. would i even want more than 8v going into my amps? any other brands to consider? help me out, thanx!

Audio Control

I have used and have (need to install again), an audio control line driver. It is a two channel one that i used only for my sub output. I personally like the audio control and was pleased with the sound that it added to the bass output. I also had it mounted towards the front of the car in my center glove box (in a benz), so i could adjust the gain on my bass.

I'm not familiar with pheonix gold products, so I can't tell you much there. Any reason why you need that much voltage going to your amps??? Seems like an aweful lot to me. When I was using the line driver for my sub in the benz, i really never needed to boost the output much. Do your amps just need that much voltage on them? I would think that much would tend to cause distortion or volume control issues and/or a lot of popping whenever your amps cut on.

Just my thoughts, sorry I'm not of more help.

Your gain is gonna be $hitty up top. I wouldn't even think about 13V man...and to be honest with you, you may end up frying your driver and blowin components.

I'm using the stock voltage coming from the stock Clarion HU. Sounds plenty loud and plenty clear for me. I have my gains set so the max volume I am comfortable with is reached when the stock HU is at vol. of 20 (out of 30 or 31... I forget which it goes up to). No noise or distortion.

I'd look at the Phoenix Gold SLD44. It's a 4 channel unit.

I hear the CleanSweep is a line driver...

You don't need to jucie your subs if you've got amps man...just turn the gain up on the sub's amp.

I agree, and think i hinted at that, i just can't comphrehend any need to go over say 6 volts or so...

Audio control does makes a six channel one by the way...not sure on the costs, i've never really had any need for a line driver and can't figure really why any one would need one other than in a very very high end system where your needing to sort of electronically boost your signal in a processor sort of way...like i mentioned the audio control really made the bass sound better on my system....

sorry to keep posting but isn't the goal of a line driver simply to match the voltage of your amp and your headunit? I would think an aftermarket HU would be close to your amp?? I'm a novice...so please correct me/ignor me if i'm wrong, but the last thing you want to do is pump too much input into your amp....sounds like a receipe for disaster....thats why there is a gain on yoru amp!!

Compare The Avic-d1's 2v Withe The Jl1000/1's 8v... Not Exactly A Match Made In Heaven! But I Went Ahead And Purchased The Audiocontrol Unit, Its Adjustable So It Gives Me Flexability In Voltage... The Pioneer Unit Is Lacking For Sure! 2v From An Aftermarket Hu Is Deficient...ill Post A Review Once I Install- Ill Let Ya Know The Cost/benefit Of This Product. Ill Probably Adjust To About 5-6v Anyways... I Think My Amps Will Be Able To Handle The Juice-let Me Know If They Cant! Btw, If My Subs Are Only 400watts Rms And My Amp Is 1000 W. Rms, Is There A Risk Im Running Due To My Input Voltage (the Amps Are Rated To Handle 8v Inputs)???

amps

i wouldn't think the rating of your subs should matter, you'll know it if you put too much power through to them..... Didn't realize the pioneer only puts out 2volts at the RCA outs....i've always assumed most aftermarket headunits are in the six volt range, guess it helps to read the specs!!!! lol....best of luck to you, i think you'll be glad you went with the audio control brand, i think it's superior construction myself, i've torn one apart before!
