Help on amp & sub install PLEASE!!!

Hi guys,
For the past 5 hours, I've been doing nothing but searching for information on LOCs, PACs, amp/sub installs, how-to's, etc, etc...and I'm overwhelmed with all the information out there. I'm hoping to get some 'simple' answers to my questions.

I want an aftermarket amp (1 or 2 channel) and a single subwoofer (10" or 12"), while keeping my stock Bose system.

1. Do I need the PAC AOEM NIS2, or a LOC? If going with the LOC route, which one do I need (which model number)?

2. Can any amplifier be used with a LOC? I've heard that certain amps don't require a LOC, but I'm trying to keep everything very simple, and away from the stock h/u as much as possible.

I know too many people have answered these questions, but I'm also finding too many different answers. Thanks for any input.

This statement has been made many times by many people. The answers, even in 'simple' terms are here. That being said, I'll quickly answer your questions.

no, and no if you buy an amp that accepts balanced-differentual input signals. If the amp does not take speaker-level inputs (most likely not), you will need some twisted/braided RCA cables in order to adapt the speaker wires to RCAs to input into the amp. If your amp does not take balanced-differential inputs, you do need a LOC, but not any LOC, you need a LOC that not only converts speaker wires to RCA, but also balanced-differential signal to single-ended signal. I believe the Soundgate LOCPREA does this.

2. Can any amplifier be used with a LOC?

The most simple setup if you want to keep your BOSE system, but with a little more "kick"... is to just add a monoblock amp, and a sub.

If you get the JL Series amps, you do NOT need a LOC...
Just tap the L/R signals before the BOSE amp, and wire them to your amp. It's not a very difficult install if you are semi-proficient with diagrams and installs.

There are many posts on this forum with various member's setup. Some go all out with Double-Din conversion with multi-channel amps, and all new speakers...

For me, adding an Amp/Sub, and changing the components were good enuf for me. It's really up to personal taste for how loud/clear you want your system.
