I know your requesting information about upgrading the speakers but sound deadening is another way you can improve the performace of your stock system. This should be done before upgrading anything.
IMO the bose system sounds really crappy because they are all open air speakers hitting in a space with no dampning/insulation (yes they are still crappy speakerss). This causes rattles and a really hollow sound to the music. I put about 50sq ft and used some insulation to fill the hollow cavities in the rear quarter panels.
The difference is night and day. Not only in sound quality but also in road noise reduction
I still plan on upgrading my system but this mod made me much more satisfied with my stock setup.

Are any spacers or adaptors needed to make these work in a Bose equipped 06 sedan?

I will most likely just replace the fronts.

Thanks!

When I first got my car back in 2003, my buddy helped me upgraded the front speakers to MB Quart QSC 216 6-1/2" Component Speakers - amazing audiophile sounds - huge improvements from the cheapie paper cone "no-high-no-lows-must-be-bose" speakers - the same in my ex's Nissan Maxima. I'm thinking to changing out to a new dvd/cd, amplifier, and rear speakers setup now.

I think I am going to change Speakers to Infinity Kappa's. I put some Boston Pro's in the rear and MMATS in the rear deck, but they are 4 ohm, and i just dont htink the stock bose amp can push them, and that must be why they dont sound that great.

Those of you that have changed over... what are you doing with the 6x9 rear deck speakers? Do you even keep 6x9's maybe leave the holes open for the sub in the truck to sound a little better???

+1, for solid mid-bass response sound deadning is key. I would put a sound deadning door with a pair of stock speakers above some crappy pioneer, kenwood un-deadend'd(sp?) speakers in the door as far as mid-bass goes.

I took the 6x9's out completely so more bass from the sub in the trunk could enter the cabin. The 6x9's are supposed to be the subs in the bose system, so if you power them with the Bose amp, they're only going to get low frequencies.

Got some Boston Pro 6.5's and it sounds like crap. i dont think the stock amp has enough $hit to puss the Pro's. not to mention they are 4 ohm. I was very disapointed, I have always been an avid Boston Accoustic owner. The Bose is a new area for me and I have ot say I hate it.

The Bose amp is garbage and has it's own sound shaping EQ curve. Mated with low efficiancy Boston Pros, I'm not surprised that they don't sound good to you. IMO, the Bose amp is the worst component in the audio system.

I'm going to have to say the Bose speakers are the worst componet in the stereo. Im basing this on the fact that the Bose amp still works, but I had noise coming from both 6x9's, one 6.5 in the rear sides and now htat i changed them out I have noise coming from my driver door speaker now. I wish the car just had a normal stereo rather than the over price and over rated Bose.

BTW, I wan't knocking the Bostons. I love them and have used them for years. They usually need a little more power than other speakers to sound great, which the Bose amp can't put out.

As far as sound deadening how much would be enough to get a good difference from having none? i was thinking of changing the door speakers to the kappas, and sound deadening the doors and maybe the rear deck because it rattles. Would this be a good improvement? would i still have good bass with the stock subs(its a coupe so i think it has 2 6x9) or will alot of it be lost by changing both sets of door speakers?

Great info, but wondering if I missed somewhere ... what are the mounting depths for the doors? I bought an 07 G35 and have some past experience with hooking up systems (did my own Image Dynamics setup in my last truck, components and subs), so I want to compare the recommended Infinities I've seen here along with some others like ID, MBs, Dynaudio, etc.

There usually isn't a depth issue, especially if you get the $20 MDF speaker spacers from www.zenclosures.com.
