Need advice on low profile upgrade.
I have a 2004 sedan with the standard audio system and want to accomplish the following:
1) Dynamat the doors.
2) Upgrade the door speakers to Boston Acoustics SL series.
3) Power the speakers using one JL Audio 300/4.
4) Store MP3 files in a device such as Ipod.
5) Control everything through the stock HU.
I do not like the idea of inputting the Ipod via the SAT port in my HU because I'm concerned about losing sound quality as it travels though the HU. I also am unsure of the quality of using simple LOC between the HU and the amp because I would think any distortion is simply passed on from the HU to the amp.
I am interested in the JL Cleansweep or similar product because the Ipod would connect directly into it and the product seems designed for this purpose.
What I need help on:
1) Does the above setup accomplish my goal of audiophile sound with the sleeper look of the stock HU;
2) How would the HU control the Ipod;
3) How the HU bass and treble, fader and balance controls work with a product like Cleansweep.
I have an open mind so please don't hold back.
Thanks.

In all honesty, if you cant hear that the music coming from your IPOD (or any other MP3 player) sounds like pure crap, you likely wont notice a change in sound quality do to signal degredation.
I mean no offense, but the bottom line is, you'll never achieve "audiophile" quality sound levels from an MP3 source. Nor anywhere close to it.

Contact geeman and ask what he thinks of his setup. DLS reference amp, UP6 in front, MW110 sub in the back. OEM HU, PAC input with Icelink Aux feeding it for his iPod.
The preamp in your HU isn't any worse than the preamp in your iPod. That volume controlled out sounds tons worse as a line source than the line out in the docking connector on the bottom...
Apple Lossless and LAME are OK. MP3s off of the Internet, or the iTunes defaultt codec, suck.
