I have been waiting for this screen for a while too. But my installations skills are limited, I mean none really. So I was wondering if there is someone/shop in Bay area (around San Jose/Sunnyvale) who could install the screen and carPC? Of course I am ready to pay for the services. Does anyone know of a shop which does such installs in bay area?

Your best bet would be to go to a higher quality audio install shop and talk to them about this, and explan exactly what you want. Do this at two or three different shops, and don't go for the cheapest one. Go for the one that impresses you most with their professionalism.

As for pics of the 05, I will be taking some pics this weekend of mine, and I will post them.

I've been really looking into the 04 model for my G35 and from the video i just saw, the monitor did'nt look too sturdy. I'm just wondering during acceleration how this will affect the monitor.

 

Let's just say that I have gone from zero to the spped limit in a quick fashion and never had any problems in the short week I have had the screen. The magnet holding it is pretty strong.

Hey Dave, do you have pictures with the monitor on and as someone who's been looking in getting the xenarc 700TSV, what setup do you think I should get if I only want the navigation and DVD to play on the monitor? Thanks J

Yes I am, I just don't know what type of Car PC is good. Is anybody here rockin the Xenarc 700TSV on an 04' G35? And what type of setup do you have? Also I want to see what the total cost for everything just to see if its worth it..J

 

I've got an 05 with the 700TSV sold by god_of_cpu. The computer is custom built. Click on the link in my sig, and that has all the info about my CarPC. I'll try and take some pics of the screen this weekend.

If you don't mind me asking you how much that setup costs and that the setup you have is to run the nav and dvd and all that good stuff right? I just want to make sure that the monitor for that xenarc is not flimsy. Looking at the video from god_of_cpu it looked pretty loose or maybe it was'nt finished.

 

Well, it depends what you mean by cost. I did it all myself, so the labor has to factor in somewhere. You can get the screenfor $749 from www.mp3car.com and the computer is up to you. They sell prebuilt and loaded computers with the "Streetdeck" load, which is actually rather neat, and they sell components if you want to build your own.

All told, I've probably spend close to $3000 on my carPC, but I've gone with pretty high end components for everything I could. You could easily build or buy one, including the screen for $1500. Its completely up to you.

However, if all you want is navigation and DVD, there are head units that will do that, and do those particular things better than a carPC will. But thats all they will do. A carPC is much more versataile, and a big part of it is the satisfaction you get from building it yourself. You need to figure out esactly what you want.

caelric- any suggestions on how I can cut the aluminum faceplate that came with my glovebox din converter? Gotta cut an opening for my Pandora. God_of_CPU recommended a metal nibbler, but I don't have an air compressor nor do I feel like buying one just to buy a metal nibbler. The 120vac nibblers are pretty expensive too

I guess I could get some black plexiglass and cut a faceplate out of it.... that could look pretty sweet too. What could I cut an inner square out of a larger piece of plexi with? Dremel? Those plexiglass scorers won't work in this scenario.

It might take a while to do, but it makes very clean lines.

 

i am going to order this for my 05 coupe and i was just wondering what type of wiring etc. i would need to hook a dvd player to it? about how many hours does the install take. i realize i could get a different unit but i dont want to visibly modify the dash.....

 

You can hook up your dvd player to one of the screen's video in jack (RCA connector). You'll need to get an auxillary adapter like the PAC AAI-NIS2 to hook up your audio to the HU.
