4080 box questions.... I'm getting one

edit - i changed the original name of the thread for anyone who cares because i dont want this to look like im flaming 4080 or his product. I AM BUYING ONE.... again... IM BUYING ONE because it is the best option for what i want... i would buy one if it was $500 probably... o yeah... the original thread said "NON-FLAME" in the title... trying to say that this is just a question that i am wondering... i feel bad if i made 4080 look bad in any way... because his product is obviously where its at and it now sounds like a lot better deal.

I'm getting an avn5435 for xmas... welll getting about 1/6 paid for for xmas lol.. but whatever. Im going to go with the 4080 box and a jl 10w6 (more than enough bass for me) in my coupe. I'm going to pay the $300 dollars for the box regaurdless because i like it and dont have any other options that are exactly what i want. I am honestly and objectively asking why the 4080 box cost so $300? Its fiberglass right? I realize that there was a lot of R&D to get it right, and my friend fiberglasses a TON and i know its not cheap for supplies... im just wondering kind of about the sound quality of the box versus a custom box or a pre-built box that someone could use. I dont know what makes a box better than another. I guess im more asking for info on the 4080 box more than im ranting about the price. How much does a custom box cost made at an audio store? My friend just got quoted $140 on his TL for a custom box buy a pretty good shop here on the north side of houston. Would the 4080 box give me better sounding bass. (I'm more concerned with QUALITY than BUMP.... but i would like to put out a little bump just to be immature and show tha womens that my car is gangsta

As a retailer, I can say for what 4080 is charging for his box, it is a great deal. The fit and finish, from what I have seen, is very good. Compare it to the JL Stealthboxes costing upwards of $600 and you are getting a deal and a half. Fiberglass takes time and his time is definitely worth something. And no, I am not affiliated with 4080 at all. I just know it first hand from a retail business.

you wont find a better quality box that fits in the G and looks as good, installs as easily, saves as much space, sounds as good, and is so easy to get, for less..

Regardless, he can charge what he charges because people are willing to pay it. Pretty simple. I know I did.

Like others said, you are paying for the fit, finish and build quality. If you have not seen one installed in person, here's the rundown.
Fit: Infiniti could not have done a better job making that box fit perfectly, you lose very very little trunk space and it stays put.
Finish: If you show the box to 20 people and they didn't know exactly what comes in a coupe, they'd think it was factory, or maybe better
Build: having worked on various FG boxes and the odd boat here and there. There is nothing that I would do differently (better). I got it and admired the build quality for quite a while.
The bottom line is you cannot go wrong with this product!

what if you don't order it? then you could go wrong with the product. or if you ordered it and then smashed it with a sledgehammer. that would be going wrong with the product too. Or you used it as a flower pot... that would suck.

Supply and demand.

If he charged $79.99 for his box, then EVERYONE will want one, and there's no way he could keep up with that kind of demand and have it be worth his time.

Just good business practice. That's all.

Jesus Christ!

A real shop charges $400-600 for a single-woofer fiberglass box. That's what we charge. We've had customers use the 4080 box because even if we price-matched, the install would have taken a lot longer, and with the 4080 box, we can get it done in a single day.

Any molded box will have fewer reflections internally than a buttercube of wood. For this reason, it will sound better, if evverything else is equal (stiffness, material resonance, etc.) You also get more output from corner loading - 6-9 dB according to old Bazooka white papers. A box in the middle of the trunk won't be as loud.

Maybe you should trade your G for a Civic Si... I hear they're cheap and on closeout.

It's a beautifully finished, hand-made product. I don't know how he makes money off of them at the price he charges.

Think about how much fun fiberglassing is (that's sarcasm) and all the bad 'glass work you see out there. $300 is chump change for a box that nice imo.

this box is TOTALLY worth it... Try messing w/ fiberglass and you will see how much of a deal it really is. It sounds phenominal w/ my ID 10v3.

Umm...the box was specifically made for the G, sedan or coupe. Doesn't that make it custom? Even though it's now being produced from a mold it's still a custom box.

Hey, some of you guys need to read his whole post before you talk **** to him. He isn't being rude about it or anything else. He just didn't understand what went into the building of this box and why the price was what it is. I myself also thought it seemed a bit high. Now I understand. Either way, el_dudarino, lay off.

I would also buy the box if it would fit my 10" sub... And I miss my civic Si...

So were you mad at dudarino for his comment towards the original poster, or his comment about the civic.
