Thumbs up X50 hardwire using Invisicord qucik connects

Ok I hooked up my passport 8500 X50 today. First of all I tried to use Mike's radar mount, but it wouldnt fit on my mirror post. Dont know if the mirror is different on an 06 ( doubt it ) or the mount maybe a differnt size? Anyways I used the suction cups to mount the radar next to the mirror on the winshield and used the INVISICORD to tap the wire harness. The pins on the invisicord were a tight fit into the harness but using some pliers and some force I managed to get them in far enough in the harness to draw power. When I pushed in the pins by hand they didnt go in far enough and the radar wouldnt power up at first. The black with red tracer wire on the 06 atleast is constant power, not switched. I didnt wanna mess with it anymore so I left it in. I wish Mikes mount would have worked, then this would have been the perfect install, but I am still pleased with the clean look, not having to removed pillar trim ( we know the rattle stories and I didnt want to take off another part if I didnt need to! ) and not having to solder/splice anything. The quick connects from www.invisicord.com are the way to go!

Hey, its because you have the non homelink mirror, and the dia of the post is around .92", which is larger than the 3/4" dia of the homelink posts that he made the mount for. But I hear a little bit of sanding with a Dremel and it should fit. I dont know just yet tho, still waiting on the mount, hopefully it'll be waiting for me at home. Its been almost a week, and first class mail shouldnt take this long, perhaps its the holiday volume.

I'll let you know if I can modify mine and make it work. I dont want to use suction cups if I dont have to.

PS, i see some of the metal contacts are still sticking out, if you are really **** about making it clean, you can get some liquid electrical tape (walmart even has it) and just brush some on the leads to make sure they don't short.

This was the first installation I have seen on the G35, and there might be some tweaking I can do to clean this up for future customers. If you have suggestions or special requests, please add them to the note section of the Paypal payment. I have customized cords for customers in the past where they wanted all black shrinktube, and very little of the green/red phone wire showing so that it was almost completely unnoticeable. I can run the shrinktube farther down the connectors too to eliminate some of the exposed metal.

So I assume there are two different mirrors, one with the homelink module integrated and a standard mirror. What were the wire colors that you tapped into for this particular model of mirror, if you don't mind my asking? I am assuming black for ground, and black/red for power.

I actually HAVE the homelink mirror! So I dunno whats up with that. Good suggestion on the liquid electrical tape, ill look into it.

Teamspeed: I think for the g35, the leads need to be a little bit thinner, since the harness opening are really small. It took a lot of elbow grease to get it in there. I had almost given up, and it was my last try that I got it to work! I tapped the black for ground, the black/red for power ( this is always on, not switched with ignition ) I didnt wanna pull it out again to try a different wire to find out which one was switched since it was hard to get it in the first time. It would be nice to have the shrink tube all the way down also ( you can send me a free one since I was the first G35 guinea pig lol )

Install looks good, I might have to get one of those cords. Which length did you get? The 6" one?

Actually I will do that, joking aside. Shoot me your address again at sales@invisicord.com, and I will get a new one out to you. I will make sure the leads are more flat and will get the shrinktube down to the neck. Some vehicles need more clearance, so the shrinktube down that far could interfere with the install, but for the Infiniti/Nissan siblings, I will change it a bit. What is the other color wire that you could tap into so that you have switched power?

The 6" one will work, but I got the 8" just to be on the safe side.

Teamspeed:
Appreciate your offer, Ill send you an email. I THINK the third wire going to it was also wrapped in black sleeve, I dont wanna mess with the harness again but Ill let you know when I install the newer cord.

Thank you everyone for your business, I have been receiving periodic orders from members in this forum. I have a question, and this really comes as a result of a couple of PMs I received from members.

1) One person is having a problem getting a good contact with the factory connectors once they push the quick connects into the harness. Others have emailed me and stated they were happy with the install. Are there any words of wisdom you can impart to me and thus indirectly to the others? I don't have access to a G35 here to see exactly what the nuances are in with installing my invisicord with this vehicle.

2) One person is not getting switched power, but rather constant power. My initial assumption is that the wrong black striped wire was used, my take from the other threads is that one of the black striped wires is constant and the other is switched. Again, any insight fellow members could give me will be helpful.

My invisicord was nearly impossible to jam in to the G35 harness. I gave up twice and finally got a contact that would stay after a third try later in the day, and I'm not that confident that it's going to stay in there. The metal taps on the inviscord are just too large for the small openings in the G35 homelink harness. If there is a version of the invisicord with smaller taps, I would love to try it.

I modified the x50 mount using a Dremel and now have my x50 dangling from my homelink mirror. There are only two wires going in to the homelink harness (ground and non-switched +12), so all I can do is turn off the x50 when I stop the car or disconnect the phone connector on the side of the x50, unless I want to go digging around to cut and splice in to a switched line.

Okay that is helpful. It sounds like the flattened connectors are too wide to fit into the harness port. I don't currently have any smaller diameter connectors, but I will check with my supplier to see what they have available. They just moved to a new building and still are a little disorganized. Some folks were able to install them, so I am curious on how they were able to get that accomplished, like what the "trick" was.

It's not so much a width issue as a thickness issue. You could keep the same width if you dropped some thickness. I think it's just a matter of switching to a smaller piece overall. You can force it in there, but it's not that reliable. A few jiggles and the power turns off and on. With the amount of force I had to apply to get it to stay, I'm sure it has deformed the metal connectors inside the harness.

JWang had the same issue. If you want, please send it back to me, and I will send you a replacement as well where I will completely flatten the connector (aka. "hammer" vs "pliers"). I guess you don't bring a boy to a man's fight...

Just include your shipping address with the cord so I can get the replacement out to you. I may have to make two variations of this cord, and need to change my order page to ask folks to put their vehicle make/model in the notes of their payment info.

has this been an issue just on the 06s? I should get mine cord soon and I have an 05 - so I'm hoping I don't have to fight to get it in there.

Yeah, it needs to be less thick. It's almost impossible to get it in there. Maybe a 10" would be nice too because I have a BEL rx65 pro, and the connector is on the right side of the radar so it might even need a little extra longer cord.

They connectors are a tight fit agreed even on the 06, I had to use a pair of pliers to force the pins into the harness, but they are tight and snug now, it wont move around or give a loose connection. I have an "upgraded" model with what looks like thinner connectors but I dont wanna try to install the new wire cuz the old one works perfect...and well if it aint broke dont fix it! I am pretty sure the X50 power connector is on the right side as well and the 8" cord is more than enough.
