2006 Navigation, Fuel Economy Record not working?

Those of you with 2006 cars with navigation, have you used your Fuel Economy Record screen? (Information > Fuel Economy > Fuel Economy Record)

Mine is still completely blank after 1300 miles, and there is no mention of this function in the navigation manual. Also, in the Fuel Economy Record screen, pressing OK or pushing a direction doesn't do anything. All I can do is push back or push another navigation button.

Any of you guys know the secret to this thing? Thanks much. Also, my "Fuel Economy" screen always has stars on it initially, but the values show up after 5-10 seconds (I assume this is normal).

Try putting it on that screen, then driving for a bit until values show up, then turn off the car and go back to that screen....it should have your values retained or else there is a problem with your volatile memory OR there might be a setting to auto reset it each time??? No idea man...

on the last pic, the bar graphs only shows the history based on periods of time between resets (when u actually reset the mpg reading, shown in the third screen). If you've never reset, you might not see anything in that graph.

the fuel economy section in the nav package is a bit tricky, but it DOES work. here's how to use it.

1.) info->fuel economy
2.) drive around for a bit
3.) you should see the average calculation come up, along with remaining mileage
4.) if you push up on the directional joystick and then push down to "reset" the average mileage, you can then go and view the historical mileage and you will see a value set in the chart. i do this everytime i go to the station to fill up. you should know that if you try to reset the average mileage when it shows stars, the chart will record 0 for the average mileage (this kinda sucks as I did this a couple of times).

i've also noticed that when driving around with the fuel light on, the fuel economy screen can't calculate the remaining miles on the tank very well. not sure what to make of this... but i'll complain to my dealer if it doesn't work itself out in a few tanks...

Ah, that makes sense. I thought "Reset Interval" was a selection that I for some reason didn't have access to that reset the screen, rather than an axis label. I'll give it a try today. Thanks!

Yes, the '06 navigation interface was my primary reason for paying a little extra for an '06 over an '05 (though the rear steer intrigued me a bit as well). If you think the selection menus look nicer, wait until you see the maps.

Perfect, thanks! I've noticed that the miles-to-empty is a bit sketchy at low fuel levels as well. But I also noticed that my fuel light doesn't even come on until I'm just about right at Empty, and even then when I fill up I can only fit about 16.5 gallons! So apparently Empty really means 4 gallons left... seems a bit silly. But at least I don't have to worry about hitting Empty on the gauge.

I agree, the maps in the '06 and the overall screen resolution and clarity are AMAZING. everyone who has seem my nav system loves the birdview perspective. kudos to infiniti for getting that right, i just wish they pushed all the headunit display info to the nav system display when the nav system is up

what type of mileage are you seeing on your '06 MechEE?

I too get a lot of compliments on the bird view nav display. I've been seeing around 16 mpg in town and about 21 mpg on a highway trip. On the highway trip I was generally moving 85-90 mph.

God I was just wondering about this on the way to work today! I did reset mine after my first fill up but I think it was while the stars were displayed so nothing got recorded Btw 900 miles on mine and combined avg has been about 18 mpg, highest so far was 22mpg. I agree that they should have utilised the nav screen for the radio/Bluetooth display also. Also I just noticed that on the Bluetooth, if you adjust the volume during a call, it retains that volume level for the phone, seperate from whatever volume you were using to listen to music.

Can't we '05 and below guys get the same "birds eye", etc just by getting the lates software? I have an '04 and I haven't changed my DVD since new.

All the G35 navs have brid's eye view. But unfortunately the OS is embedded in the nav system, not the data DVDs, so you can't update to the new look without a hardware change. It almost looks like the LCD screen is a higher resolution on the new ones, but it could just all be software.
