Exclamation Navi: Has this ever happened to you?

Well, i was supposed to be at a mortuary today @ 3PM.

I enter the address on the Navigation, accept and i'm on my way (this was around 2:40ish)

I live in South Los Angeles, and figure i'll be there by 3.

I follow all the directions it is telling me, and when I get to the spot, turns out to be the wrong spot. Get this I input the correct address and everything(took me all the way to the 405S and Venice, 2 miles west of that). After I realized there was no mortuary anywhere near, i decided to call the mortuary and find out the cross streets. They told me the street and figured then it was in Downtown Los Angeles.

I ended up being 45 minutes late when it was already over!!!!

I was 100% sure i entered the correct address, and i couldn't figure out why I ended up at the wrong spot... I ended up figuring out that the damn Navigation NEVER asks you for the Zip Code...

If anyone that hasn't been to L.A. trust me, we have the same addresses for different parts of town, only thing that changes are the zip codes.

Well just thought I'd check to see if anyone else has had this problem before. By the way, this was my 2nd time that this happened.

Anyone think Corporate will do anything about this issue?

make sure you get the city right also and double check the location on the map. If it doesn't look right, "hello mapquest."

Same crap here man. I have people driving 10 miles to the other side of town to deliver MY pizza to the address that is identical to mine.

I was trying to find a new JW Marriott in orlando, but it was too new to show up in the GPS directory. So, I called the hotel, and got the address. I entered the address into the GPS, and I thought all was well.

All WAS well, until, the last turn. It told me to turn right, and proceed for 2 miles to my destination. Unofrtunately, the GPS sent me the wrong way. It sent me to an old concrete yard.

It should have had me make a left and go for about 2-3 miles. Very strange. When I got the the wrong destination, I did a double check to make sure that I entered the address correctly. Sure enough, it was correct.

MOstly, the GPS kicks a$$. I love the "quick stop" feature if I need gas or an ATM. that is very useful!

Instead of just hitting enter once you've entered the street, hit list to tell the Nav to list all possible streets. it will give you a list of all the same streets but different towns in parenthases beside the street name. Thats what ive had to do a few times just so that I can get the right street. its annoying i know but youve just gotta learn to live with it.

This guys is right. I never had a problem with my Navi and it helped me out a few times already. I wanted Navigation mainly for show, thinking I might use it once or twice a year, and actually it helped me out more than 5 times already, saved me gas, mileage and time. Not even mentioning the stress and aggrevation of being lost, which reflects negatively on our health, which is priceless. If money permits, I will always buy a car with Navi from now on, of course negotiating with a seller/dealer that the navi is useless to not pay MSRP. Take care.

I always double check addresses online before I go anywhere because I will periodically get addresses that the navi will not even let me enter. I have had mapquest screw up addresses on me, so I never expected the navi to be much better. If it will not let me enter the proper address I will just scroll to the closest spot on the map and let the navi guide me there.

Most importantly the navi is good at getting you to destinations, but as with any automatic mapping system addresses are always the weakest link, so always double check the destination if you think its not logical.

I don't think corporate will do much of anything other than tell you to buy the updated navi DVD at your cost. The system is "working as intended."

+1

If you're trying to get to a mortuary in L.A but the directions given are heading down to O.C., you best double check. You should have a Thomas Guide in ryde just in case. Hope the funeral wasn't for a close family member, if so, my codolence to you and yours.

I usually do the "List all streets/locations" thing for each portion of the address that I'm entering. So far, I haven't had any problems.

The annoying thing to me, is that the Nav system is pretty bad at finding the best route to get there. I swear, the thing always takes you through ghettos and rarely finds the most direct route despite the fact that I have tried using "Shortest Distance" as well as "Shortest Time" for calculation methods and I don't have any other settings such as "Avoid highways", etc engaged.

I use it mainly as a Guide, unless I am completely in a foreign area.

For the most part my navi has helped me out on countless times. However there have been about 3 or 4 times when it has totally flipped out on me and literally caused me to go in circles (it brought me back to the same intersection twice). Luckily I was never in a rush when it told me to go the wrong way.

Long story short, it has helped me way more than it has hurt me, and we can't expect perfection from the thing anyways so it's ok.

Well, when you ended up at your "destination" (per the NAVI), what did the actual street sign read? Is it possible that you chose a different town accidentally?
