I did do a lot of research before I brought my new speakers, but I still got it wrong. Now I want to put the new 6x9 in the rear deck.
After hours of stripping down the car, I can to a dead end again.

Should I put the speaker directly on the metal or should I put on the rear parcel shelf finisher?

What year G35? Can you take a picture? I thought the speaker holes would still be there on all G's at least.

Nope. I have non-bose and have no 6x9 speaker holes in the rear deck.

Can you dremel them out?

More than likely.

Just return the speakers and get 6 1/2" for the rear sides. I wouldn't mess around with a dremel considering the rear windshield is right there. One slip and you'll have a few hundred $ damage. Besides, most people who have swapped speakers even with the Bose 6x9 back there leave them empty or unplugged.

What do you want 6x9's for? Generally, 6.5's have better sound quality than 6x9's, and if you want them for bass, you would be better off getting a real subwoofer rather than a set of 6x9's.

I would take them back, get a decent set of coax 6.5's for the rear sides, a quality set of component 6.5's for the front doors, and a decent 10" sub, and the 4080 box for the trunk.

Yes, for sound quality, a good pair of 6.5's sounds better than a good pair of 6x9's, all other things being equal. 6x9's are kind of like jacks of all trades, decent a both sound quality and bass, but actually good at neither.

However, if you are not getting any subs, the 6x9's can make decent subs, though again, not nearly as good as a dedicated subwoofer, 10" or better.
