if you remove the stock bose amp mounting bracket it buys you quite a bit more room. I would think you could fit any JL "slash" series amp. considering I crammed a 500/5 under there with a little alteration (see other posting for pics https://g35driver.com/forums/showpos...33&postcount=2)

Believe me, if I'd had my choice, I would've bought the car with a big hole in the dash and put my own choice of components into it. What frustrates me even more, is that car manufacturers (not just Nissan/Infinity) are getting heavier into integrating the stereo system into the dash/HVAC systems, etc. Used to be a no-brainer to remove a stock deck, pick up a new one and go from there. Considering the general agreement surrounding the lack of quality of the stock or upgraded Bose units, Infinity could have done just as well to put in a standard no-frills Clarion unit, charged several hundred or a thousdand dollars less, and made the upgrade road a lot less bumpy for the rest of us, IMHO.

There's also the principle of having to spend 1, 2 or 3k to "fix" a system in a 35-40k car.

Ok. I feel better...

The best part of that statement is that the carmakers are spending money screwing up the deck of the US spec cars - Mazda, Infiniti, Subaru, all come with 2-DIN holes in the home market. Grr.

Why does the Bose sound really bad when listening to FM but CDs sound okay? I can actually hear treble when listening to CDs.

Thats only because CD's play the full 20-20,000hz frequencey while Fm is only 30-15,000hz. Its not like the bose system can get anywhere close to 20k hz, but i guess its higher than 15K.

I'm not an expert on audio equipment but aren't the speakers made out of a circular cutout of an Avon box and a cone-like object?

thats what i do...bass at -1, treble at +5. then i use the fader to act as a crossover. if theres too much low end, fade the sound to the back speakers. you can make it sound decent when the car is not moving and with the volume less than about 6

once you turn up the volume, it seems like the different frequency ranges dont scale proportionally

I like "sounds like crap" better.

But if you prefer "amplitude-based progressive signal compression", that's OK too.
