Double-DIN conversion compatibility problem

Hey guys,

I've got the 2003 6MT coupe. I recently bought the double-DIN console from another G35'er who sold his 2004 6MT coupe. He had already soldered the dual climate control button which is why I paid him for the kit.

I just took out my OEM console (with Bose unit) and plugged the double-DIN console into my car. The climate control doesn't even light up, let alone allow control of any functions. Since it's 32 degrees out today (with snow), it sucks not having any heat or defroster control. Anyway, has anyone ever heard of this happening before? I thought the '03 and '04 were identical with regard to the climate controls. They look exactly the same....

This was a complete bummer since i paid $200 for this DD kit. I figured maybe his soldering was bad or there's just an incompatibility issue with the electronics. I'm desperate to figure this out...I've got no heat or defroster until this is resolved. If I put in the OEM console back in, I may have to just sell the head unit I bought.

Anyway, I'm struggling here....any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
B

this may sound obvious, but are you sure it connected properly?

Checking on it...

Hey Black on Black,

I'm going to start with putting the OEM climate control back in to see if that works and just go from there I guess. Anyway, just wanted to see if any others knew of weird incompatibilities between the '03/'04 climate controls.

Thanks for the suggestion
Brian

i have never heard of an issue b/w '03 to '04 - my understanding are that the parts are the same.

Thanks guys

I isolated the problem; it ended up being a mistake by the installer I hired. He didn't get a tight connection when hooking up the wiring harness for the CC. I took it back to him today and he took it off then replugged. All is well.

Thanks again for the help.

glad you isolated the problem. What you discovered is the most common cause of a malfunctioning AC after DD conversion. The second problem that is could be is that the In cabin sensor connector got loose or disconnected while you dropped the driver panel on the install. That is the harness that is located on the backside of the little grill located near the driver's right knee under the steering wheel.
