Opinions on the NAV system
Re: Opinions on the NAV system
I tried the inifniti one. Don't really like it. Went with an aftermarket Pioneet system. MUCH MUCH better. Touch screen and everything. Much more versatile, updateable, and customizable.

Re: Opinions on the NAV system
Saw Gurgen's NAV thi slasts weekend and I like it. I have the OEM Nav...
OEM complaints-> No touch screen and major function turned off while at speed, sometimes a little slow to begin routing. Since the don't have atouch screen, they could have at least enabled the joystick to "spin" to move horizontally during selections.
Pros-> Auto-rerouting is pretty fast in the event you make a worng turn or already know the "general" are and only need help pinpointing an address. I like the intelligent completion of addresses (put in Pacific Coa.. and the computer finishes "st Hwy" for u)
Now...how do you splince in a DVD player?

Re: Opinions on the NAV system
Just got our G about a week ago so these are first impressions. I've also got a CL-S and so I miss being able to use the Nav while I'm moving. It's really frustrating (although probably safer) to have to stop to input an address. I also miss the touch screen. The Acura nav seems to be more specific in its initial guidance. I was frustrated by "proceed to route indicated" when I was lost in a maze, as opposed to "turn left at next intersection, etc." On the plus side, the day/night toggle is great, the ability to put it away is great, and the ease of using many of the functions with buttons instead of menus is great.
All in all, I love the car!

Re: Opinions on the NAV system
I have a BMW 330ci with Nav and am considering getting a G with NAV. Has anyone found a way to over ride the system so that you can use the main features while driving? I am almost always moving when using mine and I don't think I would like it if I couldn't do that.
Thanks,

Re: Opinions on the NAV system
that's the nice thing with my pioneer:
thre is a safety feature but it is tied to the parking brake, which my installer easily by passe. Now I have ALL featured avail while driving.
Mine has very many points of interest (11,000,000 or so). THe biggest feature is touch screen. Voice navigation, voice recognition, versatility, ability to interoperate with a home computer via a PC card (download custom images, backup custom waypoints, etc.). It is just great. The stock system really sucks.

Re: Opinions on the NAV system
I'm rather glad it has the no-input-while-driving safety feature. The controller is on the far side of the console, and you really can't keep one eye on the road while typing in addresses. It's harder than working the radio. You CAN recall stored or recently input addresses on the move though. You just can't input them from scratch. So assuming I know the place I want to go when I first get in the car, the only time this feature bothers me is when I want to use the point of interest feature to find a certain type of restaurant while on the freeway (what is it about unfamiliar freeways and the sudden craving for pancakes? Must be from long trips as a child). Other than that, what's the big deal with waiting until the next stoplight or pulling over for a couple seconds?
It'd be nice if there was a passenger override switch though, so that they could use it while moving. But someone would probably hack it.
