Opinions on the NAV system
Opinions on the NAV system
Hello all,
First-time poster and a potential buyer of a G35 sedan.
I've never had a NAV system in my vehicles or have even seen one in operation. What's everyone's opinions of the one in the G35. I've heard others slam the system that Acura provides.
Thanks for any info.

Re: Opinions on the NAV system
I hate to admit it, but it was actually a big part of what edged out the other cars... Infiniti's system has gotten praise as the best out there, and I would have to admit that minus the major integration into the vehicle systems (04 Maxima, FX), it's a great system. It disables most major functions while you're driving (probably a good thing for me), but you can still access "Quick Stops" like ATMs, Gas stations, restaurants, etc. on the go. The fact that it's DVD-based, and not regional, is also a big plus. I drove the others, then chose the G based largely on other factors, but this just contributed well to the over-all package. Other opinions?

Actually for ease of use, I liked my NAVI in my ACURA CL Type-S Better. The search was easier to use, For example sometimes you just had an Adress only, You have No Idea what City it's in.... Also I MISS the touch screen, It's funny to see my friends get in and try to touch the Screen. However The Birds Eye View is Neat, Everyone Drools over that LOL

Nismo-
You can input it with just an address and no city... its default is "Any" city. Choose a street and number, and you're set... have you experienced differently?
I definitely agree that touch-screens are handy. My only qualm with Acura's was the accuracy was off and on, and it got smudged up a little more than I like. Otherwise, conveeeeeeeenient.

love my Nav. Birds eye view attracts attention from passengers. The fact that you can put it away (slide down) if you don't want to use it, or look at it.
I have two friends w/ TL's. They notice those things as great advantages.
I agree, I leave mine up all the time, when I'm cruising down the highway and come up on slow traffic, I can just look at my map (w/o guidence on) and get around it by viewing the side streets.
Money well spent. IMHO...

Re: Opinions on the NAV system
I haven't had any experience with other car navis, but I really like this one. The Bird View is same as my hand held Lowrance, and the MPG computer I use all the time.
Best option I've ever owned.

The only reason I could think is that touch screens operate on your body heat, not the pressure. You'll notice a lot of the touch screens are recessed into the dash- this one isn't, it's out there. The only problem I've had with touch screens was in extreme heat (the TL sat in the sun a while, the touch screen wouldn't respond worth a crap) and extreme cold (I was cold, not the car). I personally like having a little more reliability, but then again anyone who whines that it takes "a whole minute" to program an address into their in-dash navigation system needs a smack Would you rather have a map?

Probably cost, too. Touch screens are more expensive, and spread that extra cost over thousands of units. We all know most of the money went to the powertrain, not the interior. I'm happy with the compromise.

My car is more for my professional side, so when I get a call and have to find an address on the road, it's extremely helpful. If this were a car for show, I would agree with rowdy... sort of. Nice rims, yes. Spinners... they're not really me. The wonderful world of choice Truly versative car!

Re: Opinions on the NAV system
It's quite useful. My mother just finished visiting for a couple of weeks from out of state. She lives in the town I grew up in, which only has 2 freeways. When I pick her up at the airport here, I take 4 freeways just to get home. Until this last trip, she's refused to drive herself anywhere. This time, I showed her how to use the Nav and turned her loose in my car. It gives her the courage to explore without the fear of getting lost, because wherever she is, the car can lead her home.

Sorry, I had something crazy in my ears... did you say you let your mom drive your G? That's why we got my mom the FX-- I wouldn't let her touch my G! You are an amazing and understanding kid.

I'm in outside sales and I would never buy a car again without NAV! It makes my day about 100 times easier now. Unless you never go anywhere you don't already know, it's a great asset to the car.
